Asking for a friend...REALLY

I'm not quite understanding what the two are about. I understand the top one but what's puzzling about the star? Never mind, I went back and now see that it's a puzzle that holds the pieces that are then supposed to be put into a star. Great idea. I might have to make one.

Ray:
The 2 examples that Scott showed at the beginning of this post are 2 separate  pieces
They do not go together - The star one is a partial cutting, It's missing the star that is cut
into puzzle pieces - The shape for both just happens to be the same, this is what is throwing you off
BUT:
If you do manage to fit the pieces from the top one into the star, make sure you keep the solution
it will surely be a one of kind

So what you and Jim did is the actual pattern for the top photo
Thanks

Hi Delvaughn:
I don't think so, I think it's 2 separate patterns - Maybe someone else can weigh in and confirm

I believe so. I haven't gone as far as digitising the pieces and then fitting them in the star star shape, but the shape of the pieces certainly suggests that they will fit in the star. Also the grain direction does not match on the pieces in the pentagon, suggesting that they have been cut from another shape.  The grain looks suspiciously like the star.

Hi John:
I retract what I wrote before, I was wrong, you are correct, these pieces will fit or make a star shape

Well, I think I figured it out. Yes, you can take the pieces from the pentagon and arrange them in the star. One piece from the star will need to be flipped over to finish the octagon. I printed the star and octagon and cut them out. Now I think I will make one. Thanks for all of your thoughts and inputs. And thanks Jim for the pattern. It's pretty cool. I'll post a photo of the paper cutout, but first I'll let you guys try it. 🤣🤣🤣
