Juan Rodriguez
Has anyone used alder wood for scrolling projects? If you have, what is your opinion and experience using it? Thank you for your comments! OCtoolguy
Dak0ta52
Not sure about cutting it but I have a Fender Strat made from Alder that is very heavy! Sounds great so I don't think I'll cut it up into scrolling projects. John B, OCtoolguy and barb.j.enders
Dave Monk
I use a lot of alder. It's soft and easy to scroll. I also use it for intarsia. Very easy to shape. OCtoolguy, GrampaJim and NC Scroller
dgman
Alder is a hardwood but is very soft. Easy to cut with a scrollsaw. It looks a little like Cherry, but without the Cherry grain. Because it is relatively soft, it gets blotchy if stained so use a sealer if you plan to stain. I have used in the past and have always had good luck with it. Gonzo
I agree with Dave Monk and Dgman. A very easy wood to work with. However, I have never stained it. OCtoolguy and Dave Monk
CSull
I have used it a lot and had good results. Spalted alder, if you find some is a good looking wood. OCtoolguy
