Bonjour tout le monde,
I'm satisfied (a little) of this first experience for me. I cut this board from a photograph. I made the pattern with an application.
I think redo  projects like that time to time.

For a first job, picture to cut project, I think you did outstanding. I've made my first pattern using Gimp but haven't attempted to cut it yet. It's quite "busy" in the pattern with a LOT of little cuts. Thinking of going back and getting rid of some of the areas that aren't really a part of the detail.

There is no doubt if someone seen the project that knew your dog, they would know the cutting was of him. By the way, love the wood you selected for the project.

For a first try you did a great job but I think that the background is a bit too busy.  The more you do the more you will learn.

I think it's great! I definitely recognize the dog and I like patterns that leave something to the imagination. Something I haven't mastered for sure. As far as the background goes I don't think there is a right or wrong. This is art, there will always be different perspectives and opinions. For me, the background really adds to the piece as a whole. It adds depth and makes it more than a tracing of a dog. For others it may take away from it.  Always remember, Van Gogh sold 2 paintings and made enough money to maybe buy a couch.  Nice job!

Eric, I started making patterns a few years ago and I was surprisingly pleased with the results on some and no much on others. The secret to getting exactly what you want is like learning to scroll...the more you do it the more natural it becomes. I set my pattern making aside and have never gone back to trying them again. Wood portrait patterns are my favorite and I have done several of them and with some pretty good results, I think but it takes me along time to make them, only because I have not taken the time to do enough of them on a continual basis. So that said, I know it is completely my own lack of taking time to learn that process, that I am not a portrait pattern maker today. Only myself to blame. Stay at it. make another pattern tomorrow and see if it comes out as well as this one.
