Popular Post Dak0ta52 Posted June 16, 2022 Popular Post Report Posted June 16, 2022 My niece, who has one of my WELCOME signs, wanted a topper she could display when there wasn't a holiday approaching. The pattern is from FrankzyScrolls and was free on the web. They are both cut from 1/4 Oak ply with a pine backer painted black. The light one is stained with Minwax Natural and my intentions for the dark one was to darken the horses and leave the outer areas light but clumsy me let a nice large drip of dark stain drop right into an area that should have been light, so.... I just stained it all Minwax Colonial Pine. Both have four layers of clear gloss with light sanding using 320 grit paper between coats. I'm still considering putting a hanger on each and framing them where they can be used either as a topper for the WELCOME sign OR hung on the wall. Just not sure if the frame would set the metal piece on the back too far away from the magnet where it wouldn't hold. I will add that these were the hardest patterns I've cut to date. There are only 6 holes. The cuts zig zag back and forth, up and down throughout each other making the pieces very fragile. Hope you like them. Wichman, RabidAlien, jr42 and 16 others 19 Quote
preprius Posted June 16, 2022 Report Posted June 16, 2022 After a brief examination, I like the white one. It seems like it is cleaner sharper cuts because higher contrast. The eye and jaw seems to be the longest piece from a bridge. Does the upper jaw need a bridge or two also? Dak0ta52 1 Quote

The most critical point was the long point that goes down the foal's neck and then down his shoulder. It was so fragile I almost cut it off intentionally. I agree the lighter one with more contrast appears "cleaner." The stain for the darker one seems splotchy. It was even worse before I wiped it with mineral spirits. Quote
barb.j.enders Posted June 16, 2022 Report Posted June 16, 2022 Nice job. I do like the lighter one as well. I can't believe there are only 6 holes! Dak0ta52 1 Quote
Old Joe Posted June 19, 2022 Report Posted June 19, 2022 Nicely done! Tricky cuts are rewarding…when you get them finished. Dak0ta52 1 Quote
CSull Posted June 19, 2022 Report Posted June 19, 2022 Well scrolled, the lighter one is my favorite. Dak0ta52 and danny 1 1 Quote
Gene Howe Posted November 27, 2022 Report Posted November 27, 2022 Both are excellent examples of your skill. My favorite is the darker one. It has an appealing leather look to it. Dak0ta52 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted November 27, 2022 Report Posted November 27, 2022 GReat scrolling... sounds like an interesting pattern, only 6 holes to drill. Can't decide which I like best, I agree the darker on looks like scrolled in leather. Dak0ta52 1 Quote
wombatie Posted November 30, 2022 Report Posted November 30, 2022 They both look terrific but I also prefer the light coloured on best. Marg Dak0ta52 1 Quote
