Instead of buying the grid mat thingy I'd probably just mount the laser to your board and burn your own grid using the laser.. this way it'll be square to what the laser will do.. Maybe they're built really well and squared up good but if not then burning the grid into your board / mount then the grid would always be square to the laser. As for doing taller projects.. could you build a mount on each side of the machine with slots so you can just slide it up and re-tighten the mounting bolts.. or have various holes throughout the mount uprights.. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say, LOL.. Maybe you could use a metal ruler cut slot in the middle for mounting.. that way the ruler would indicate you have both sides at the same height? Just throwing some ideas.. OCtoolguy and amazingkevin 1
FrankEV
Jumping on Ray’s thread with my story. My new NEJE Master 2 that I purchased from Walmart arrived yesterday. Assembled and mounted it on a board today. Setup was simple and the operating software installed without a hitch. However, the User's Manual would probably be more useful if it had been just printed in Chinese. The English instructions are for the pits. Section on focusing the Laser beam made absolutely no sense. I think I have it figured out, but only because I watched some videos. Smallest sharp laser dot is the best. Then the section on inserting a file was useless. I only figured out by trial and error how to insert a file. It wasn’t obvious to me that I only needed to click on the words in the middle of the box. Haven't gotten into any of the additional software yet. Might not really need it. I was able to make a Logo image in Inkscape and exported it as a PNG file. I was able to load it (after a lot of experimenting) and figured out how to locate it in the 150 x 150 mm area the laser operates within. I was then also able to add it to 'My Collection' for regular use. This is all the plans I have for using the engraver at this time, so I do not need to raise it up as all my panels are basically 3/8" thick, which is right in the focus zone with the unit just mounted directly on the board. I have spent the better part of the day running test to find the combination of setting that I like the best. For now, I'm running it in the 'Fast' mode, with Laser Power at 30%, Burning Time of 20mS and Laser Brightness at Default. I set my Logo image size to 120mm wide which gives a vertical height of 48mm based on my image proportions. To allow the image to be placed in the back lower right side of a panel, I rotate the image and lower it to the bottom of the 150 x150 mm box. I have already marked out on the mounting board where the lower right corner of a panel should be positioned. It takes about 40 minutes to engrave the Logo. I’m happy, since the engraved Logo looks a lot more professional than the burning pen I was using. The marks locate the back bottom right corner of a panel. This is how in comes out, ready for a felt pen signature and a hand written year numeral. The bolt is jut there to hold up the end of the test panel as the lose panel underneath was smaller than the test panel. EDIT: Hey Ray (or any one). Do you know what these items are for. Came with the Engraver, I think the black thing is for focusing and maybe the wood blocks and papers are for doing some testing, but have no Idea what the green plexiglas, brush and the 'what ever you call it' is for. I didn't get any paperwork with mine as it was used so I just watched a few videos and went from there. There is another Villager here by the name of TAIrving that I met on Facebook on the Neje group. He has been a great help also. He has the same unit we have but I'm not sure what size. Mine is the large one. For what I originally intended I could have gone with the small one but I didn't find a deal on one so I have what I have. I will find a use for it at some point. For now, I'm going to be doing what have have done. I won't date anything that I might sell but will anything that I gift. FrankEV
kmmcrafts
Anything in the manual about maintenance? I'm wondering if you need to clean the lens from time to time? I'm not familiar with these diode laser types. But on the K40 Co2 laser I have the smoke will rise up and get on the focus lens after some hours of use.. Unless I run the air assist then it can be quite a few hours before they get dirty. These don't appear to have air assist and not really sure it's needed on one of these? I only use it on mine for cutting.. just engraving isn't needed OCtoolguy

There is an air assist kit available for them but not needed unless cutting from what I have read. I don't plan to cut with mine but who knows what is in my future. After watching Steve goods review on these I don't think cutting with one would be practical at all.. especially if you have a scroll saw, He did 7 passes on that little square he cut out.. A Co2 laser of at least 40W is what I'd say is the minimum I'd want to use for doing cutting.. When cutting as your cut get's a bit deeper your focus distance is changed so say at the top level of the piece is exact focus.. after going half way through say 1/8" BB ply your focus is off or has less cutting power.. Also something to think about is as that focus goes deeper into the wood the focal dot is getting bigger so you may not be cutting a true 90.. I don't notice this too much with 1/8" ply but when cutting 1/4" or more I can start to see the bevel on the edges.. OCtoolguy

don watson
For sure. I didn't buy this for cutting. My only purpose is engraving. I think you are right Ray. It is an ideal tool for signing patterns. I bought mine because I liked the idea of engraving with a laser on various materials and sizes. My machine is a BangGood product and has a bed 650mm x 500mm (about 2' 2" x 1' 7 5/8"), I was quite happy with this until, in an idle moment. I found it would burn through 3 mm (around 1/8")laser plywood and have been playing with the machine ever since doing various things and loving it. I will shut up now as Travis has created a forum that we can discuss these things. Enjoy your burning. OCtoolguy
FrankEV
The only thing the User's Manual says about Maintenance is. and I quote: " After a period of time, the belt may be aging and relaxation, resulting in image printing offset. You can use a screwdriver and inner hexagonal wrench to adjust screws ath the two positions of the machine, so as to re-tighten the belt". Translation is not to well done! BTW, I discovered the white 'what ever you call it' thing is a felt tip pen but have no idea what the sponge thing in the cap is for. BTW, I discovered the white 'what ever you call it' thing is a felt tip pen but have no idea what the sponge thing in the cap is for. I wonder if it has something to do with cleaning the lens.. as with any of this cheap china made stuff they might as well not offer any instructions, lol.. Nothing mentioned about cleaning it but I can't imagine it'd stay clean.. heat and smoke rise and usually finds it way up to the focal lens.. have to be really careful what you clean them with.. very fine scratches will greatly distort the power output and will affect the quality of burn you get. I use rubbing alcohol and Q-tips ( don't press hard on the Q-tip just let it lightly rub the lens.) to clean mine but not all lenses are created equal.. I had some that the RA melted it, LOL even though that was what was recommended to clean the one set I had.. I just assumed it was safe for all of them, LOL.. Some folks use lens cleaning wipes intended for cameras I think.. and I've seen mention of cleaning with glasses wipes.. Maybe the same as camera wipes? I don't know. Frank, I bought my NEJE Master 2 Mini back in January. I did not get the black thing or the green plexiglass or the brush or the "what-ever you call it." I did get a pair of sunglasses to protect my eyes when I am running the laser. I used the wood and paper for test runs. My NEJE Master 2 Mini has a 10 watt laser and a max burn area of 110 mm x 120 mm which is fine for me as I only use it to engrave my work objects. I like your logo! OCtoolguy
The wood block should measure 30 mm and is for setting the laser height to work surface. I think the green plexi might be for shielding your eyes rather than glasses. Not sure. The brush I assume is for either cleaning the laser or brushing soot from work? The paper and wood pieces are for testing. The marker pen is for ???. kmmcrafts and FrankEV
