Dave Monk
About six weeks ago I purchased a Pegas Scroll Bandsaw from @Denny Knappen. I received the saw quickly. After Setting it up and using it I discovered that the table was not flat. There is a split through the table that allows you to install the blade. The back half was a touch higher than the front so the edge of my wood would catch on it when I would push it across. It was useable but annoying especially considering the cost of the saw. I was expecting more precision from Pegas. I couldn't find a customer service number on line so I contacted Denny. I was really disappointed in the lack of technical support that Pegas has. I will say that Denny bent over backwards and got Pegas to replace the table. I sure am glad I bought the saw from someone that is all about customer service. If you do intarsia I highly recommend the saw and of coarse purchasing it through Denny. In the past couple of years I have purchased a new dust collector, table saw, drum sander and band saw. The table saw and band saw was the same brand, the band saw was different, and the dust collector was a Jet. The table saw the blade was not mounted in the saw straight and there was not enough adjustment to line it up. Finally after about six months of emails and being ignored I finally got a hold of someone in management that said they would have to replace it. On the band saw the bottom blade guide had a piece missing and I had to make a wood spacer to make it useable. It took me about three months to finally get a hold of a guy to take care of that problem. About two months ago my drum sander died. It took a week before tech support responded to my call. For the past month my dust collector occasionally popped the small breaker on the control panel. About a week ago I called tech support and they called me back in about an hour. Within two days I had a new breaker. That didn't fix it so I called tech support this morning and they called me back within five minutes. The technician explained to me how to take the cap off the motor and adjust a switch. So far so good. Jet has won my future machinery business. Customer service and tech support is more important to me than the cost. topper55, GrampaJim, jollyred and 6 others 6
OCtoolguy
I'm curious Dave, does the table of the Pegas bandsaw have a pin in the side of it to align the two halves of the table? My Delta bandsaw has one and most every bandsaw I've ever seen also had one. I'd be surprised if your Pegas saw was different. If the slit was in the same place as the standard bandsaw I don't think I would have noticed the small ledge but it is 90 degrees from the normal saw. Oldmansbike
I have a Jet table saw, bandsaw, long bed jointer and dust collector. Not a single problem with any of them. The table saw and dust collector I bought new in 99, the bandsaw I bought used last year and the jointer I bought new this spring. BadBob
That is interesting. I have watched many videos and seen lots of photos of the Pegas bandsaw but never noticed that the blade slot was in the front. I wonder why they did it that way. barb.j.enders
Customer service is a huge thing for me. Bad customer service is the one reason I will not use Bearwood and when someone else does, I make other suggestions. Denny for US people and Garnet Hall (Sawbird) for Canadians. Denny Knappen
I think I should respond here. That was the first and only Pegas Scroll Band Saw I sold. I told Dave I was reluctant as I had no experience with the Pegas Scroll Band Saw. As for the Pegas Scroll Saw, I can answer most questions and if not, Pegas support was there for me. Now, I agree with Dave about Pegas technical support being almost nonexistent on the Pegas Scroll Band Saw. I try to provide the best customer service possible, especially with Pegas Scroll Saw Blades. If anyone has problems with the blades, I would like to know rather than anyone getting upset. Dak0ta52
Denny, I have thanked you in the past for your dedicated service to the scroll saw community. Again, Dave's issue is a great example of your outstanding customer service. I thank you for this and look forward to our business dealings in the future. topper55, Dave Monk, barb.j.enders and 2 others 4

My issue was when everyone was backordered on #5 blades about 3-4? years ago and they showed they had them in stock.. I even emailed to make sure and I got a quick response they had them.. placed my order and they was pretty quick to print a label and provide tracking.. however according to my tracking number they never dropped of / picked-up my package for about 2 weeks.. then it took another 10 days to get to me.. BUT, to be fair it was at the peak of the holidays so mail was likely backed up.. My issue was that two week wait before actually mailing my blades.. I suspect they really didn't have blades and knew that a shipment was coming in so they said they did.. This was back when the #5's had a length issue ( which was why everyone was out of stock because they "Pegas" found bad blade issues and pulled all the inventory ).. I order blades way in advance, like I keep a full gross of blades on hand at all times.. when I get to my last package I order another gross.. so it wasn't that I was running out.. But with that said.. it was 3-4 months before I realized the blades they sent me was a batch of the bad blades, LOL.. They was really good about sending out replacements and they came really quite fast.. BUT, they came from Grobet? rather than Bear Wood too... I usually give companies a couple strikes before I say nope not again, depending on the situation.. I have ordered from them a couple more times.. one just recently as they was the only place I could find the wood dowel in the size and species I was needing.. Order did take some time but other than that I've not really had any major issues.. I don't mind slow mailing so long as it's expected of the company.. as for customer service handing issues I think they did a wonderful job for me because I was worried they'd not replace my blades after the order was 3-4 months old, maybe was longer than that even... so I'm not saying I'll never order from them but I am saying is why would I if I have other places to order that are top notch like Denny.. so long as he sells what I'm looking for, LOL.. I find their shipping costs, in Canada, to be very expensive. I had previously ordered a sample pack of blades from Mike @ Mikes workshop. They arrived, from the US in a regular envelope so the cost to send was under $3. When I ordered 1/2 dozen blades from Bearwood, the shipping was going to be, if memory serves, about $15.00. I asked if they could put them in an envelope for $2 in postage. I was told that it couldn't be done and I didn't know anything about shipping! I had just finished a job where I was the shipper and sent items like gaskets up to concrete mixers across North America!! OCtoolguy
Since everybody is so unhappy with Bear Woods, maybe you all should let Steve Good know. They are one if his sponsors and he does push them. At the same time write/forward your emails/letters to Bear Woods. Nothing ever improves if they aren't aware of the problems. I've only ordered one time from them and my experience was that it took way too long to receive my order. I just figured it was because they were in Canada and I'm not. I've never re-ordered. I get excellent service from Denny Kneppan. barb.j.enders
