Popular Post Scrappile
Been gone for sometime, having to readjust my life to the trials and tribulations of getting old... There are no "Golden Years" brothers and sisters, there is just "getting old, body wearing out" years... I have had to make some adjustments, but I am getting it figured out and am getting a chance to to spend some time in the shop..I really have not left the forum, I have just been present as a by-stander.. Got to say people, you have raised the scrolling bar. I see things being crafted that we did not use to do, well not much anyway... The addition of color in scrolled pieces is getting a lot more attention.. I see some really unique and beautiful productions... Kevin is back! That really had me worried.. So glad you are okay Kevin.. Scroll Saw Village would be less without you here. Over the past few weeks I have worked on a coupe things. Got to say if I had to pick a pattern of the year, for me it may be @FrankEV 's "Trees of Green". That is one of my favorite song, always lifts me up when I am somewhat down... The song has been going through my head every since he posted it.. Thought if I cut it, it would get out of my head, but it has not. So I cut it, but with a little modification.. I wanted to see some real rose looking flowers in it, after all it speaks of "red roses too". So I found some rose silhouette pictures and added them... Not real satisfied with it but am going to try some more. The four bottom black blobs were suppose to be silhouettes of rose bud... I will look further. Also I broke our three or four pieces after I finished cutting it. Got them glue back in, but it is far from good. Bad thing I cut it in a great piece of wood... but it is only wood.. this was trial one. The finished product I intend to add some color.. One thing that is an added bonus to Frank's pattern,,, If you cut the tree as one piece you get this neat little tree, to do something else with! The second thing I have recently built, this weekend in fact was just a fun project to help me keep my dogs balls in a good place. I made this ball dispenser. He is pretty happy with it, but he is pretty fussy about his balls, and was somewhat miffed that I screwed up a little on gluing the last "S" on the front.. So there it is.. Missed participating in this forum. I will be here when I can.. Dak0ta52
Glad to see you can get back on the saw, Paul. Yes, I understand how that song can get into your head. It did the same with me and I ended up cutting Frank's pattern also. I'm glad to see you were referring to "tennis" balls. I was thinking when I read you message that my dogs have been neutered. Anyway, you did a great job and I like the addition of the roses. If there was a mistake with the letters on the "ball" tender, I surely didn't see it. I got him from a young Chinese couple that had to find him a new home, the mother and number 2 son were allergic to him.. we have had Ali for over three years. They still keep in touch with us. On Ali papers his name is "Sparky'. Not a name for a lab.. they said it Chinese Sparky would be Ali.. Ali made a better name, so that is what he goes by. This couple, Chinese Americans.. their sons first names are Walter and Forest... how is that for Chinese names.. They are really a great family. meflick
Great to get an update Paul and to see you have found some time in the shop. I am sure Ali loves his ball dispenser and appreciates the organization to easily find a ball to throw for him. Your Trees of Green looks good to me. Not sure if I attempted it that my tree would come out all in one piece. prayers for you and yours, visit and update when you can. You have been missed around here as well. barb.j.enders
Great cutting. Not only do I have the song running through my brain, but I now have tears leaking out of my eyes. This was one of my dad's favourite songs and was played at his funeral. Most recently, my sister used it as the song to dance with her son at his wedding. John B
Excellent cutting and well put together. This too, is one of my favourite songs. My youngest son is autistic and many years ago< he was 2< I took long service leave from the Police force and we travelled around Australia for 3 months. At a small caravan park in South Australia, there was a group of entertainers staying. Everybody was sitting around a camp fire just chatting when this huge Thursday Islander fellow, picked up our son and sang this song to him. He sounded so much like Satchmo, that with your eyes closed you'd of sworn it was the man himself. Gonzo
Good to see you’re back Scrappile. (Yeah… everyone calls ya Paul, but I chuckle every time I see your “handle”.)Thanks for posting the Trees of Green. I missed it when Frank posted it. That song is what my daughter picked, for us to dance to at her wedding, for the father/daughter dance. Looks like I’m gonna attempt it. It’s also really cool that you cut the tree and had it come out in one piece! Nice!!!!! OCtoolguy, Scrappile and meflick 2
