ChelCass Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 Been hot and dry in our area, finally getting some much needed rain. Our garden keeps us busy with weeding, harvesting and canning. With now getting a ton of rain lawn mowing is a ever couple of days on our acre of land. Plus we finally got a cooler day to paint my Workshop. Travis, John B, danny and 1 other 3 1 Quote

Travis Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 Summers usually slow way down....but it has been extra quiet this summer. Probably everybody anxious to get out of the house. Toward the end of the month, we'll see a ramp up of traffic as we start heading into fall and the holidays. ChelCass, Wichman, John B and 3 others 5 1 Quote

I did enjoy making a lettuce garden. Nothing like fresh veggies for dinner. ChelCass and OCtoolguy 2 Quote

Oldmansbike Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 I’ve been dealing with drain and plumbing renovations. Also built a new top for our dining room table in the last week. Wife whitewashed the old base and I built the top out of red oak. Still waiting on roofers to come put a new roof on the house. Also been fishing a lot this summer. I don’t know when I ever found time to work. ChelCass, OCtoolguy, Scrappile and 1 other 2 1 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 That is why I waited so long to come back, I knew if I did the place would fall apart! I am working on a project I started months ago, one of Jim Blume's patterns. I have always been a slow scroller,, now I am a really slow scroller, but I am persistent.. I will complete it. This year was a challenge but with hubby's help we got it to grow. The pictures are just of the square foot gardens we also have raised gardens (I can't get on my hands and knees to weed anymore) and they are going great guns also. A lot has to do with the soil plus I plant Marigolds among the Vegetables to ward off the bugs. danny and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
ScollSaw Slasher Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 Great garden pics. I'm an avid gardener as well, but in Florida summer is the death on veggie gardens with the heat and humidity. Two measly cucumbers, a few lima beans and a ton of black eye peas and peppers of various kinds which are now looking sickly. But I got the tomato seedlings started to plant in September and ready to start the lettuces and other cool weather crops fairly soon. Actually doing some cutting but in half hour spurts before the heat takes me back into air conditioned splendor. ChelCass, OCtoolguy and danny 3 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted August 4, 2022 Author Report Posted August 4, 2022 We have close friends in Tennessee who bought a restored home on 11 acres that had been part of a tobacco plantation. They grow the most awesome gardens every year. But his year a freak rain storm came in a knocked all the corn down. Sad! ChelCass 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 I'm not much of a gardener I guess.. I thought I was as everything veggie wise grows awesome.. in fact I give a lot of it away.. with the talk from our leaders about possible food shortages I thought I'd grow more than veggies, so this year I tilled up a much larger garden... bought some real nice steaks, ribs and bacon seeds put it out in the garden and watered it daily.. Not a single meat product grew... I'm wondering if I watered too much? anybody know? Most of it didn't grow I think because maybe some critter took some of my seeds. Also wondering if maybe I need to put "miracle grow" on it.. I think it'd be a miracle if any of it grew. barb.j.enders, bobscroll, OCtoolguy and 2 others 1 3 1 Quote

I must say I was impressed. Very tasty and I can imagine a burger made of it. Very juicy and tasted and felt just like a hamburger. Quote
