When I usually cut this thick and hard material I would use a no. 9 Olson blade - but I have mostly Flying Dutchman Blades - for this is the blade of choice for me these days . I don't cut much thick and hard woods lately , I have used a no. 5 but remember -- slow is better - well it works better for me ......MB

Hi Kruzer. I am cutting a variety of hardwoods at the moment, mostly on signs so they stand up on their own. I am cutting up to 3/4inch in ask and oak and I have found that I am using two blades in the main, both Flying Dutchmen scroll reverse. For the long sweeping lines I am using a number seven blade as this gives me immense control on following the line on the outside of the pattern and for the inside lettering I am using a number five blade which is just nice on tight corners etc.
