Peter N White
I am fairly new to scrolling started with a pinned Scheppach but after 4 months upgraded. I now have an Excalibur copy sold by Carba-Tec made in Taiwan. My question is -is it worth to put on Pegas clutch heads. I am in New Zealand and they cost $199.00.We don't have much choice on saws available apart from pinned. Advice would be very welcome. Thankyou. don in brooklin on
I have an EX-21. I changed to the Pegas chuck heads after 10 years of usage. The blade holders where starting to slip. I probably could have done a renewal quick clamp from seyco but everyone was saying how great the Pegas clamps were. I had the money so I did it when on sale with Denny at Artscrafter and had them mailed to Canada. I think it was just over $100 Canadian with the exchange and postage. I honestly did not notice a great difference in performance but did get better blade holding. My 2 cents if you are experiencing problems it is a good upgrade but if ain't broke don't fix it. kmmcrafts
I have them on my China made Excalibur and apparently the China made chucks have some tolerance differences and I had issues clamping small blades. The hole for the set screw was too far forward from the back of the slot where the blade goes into.. SO, in my case yes they was very worth the cost as I wouldn't even use the saw ( since I had others to use ).. Now it seems to be my favorite saw to use.. But I've basically rebuilt it and turned it into a USA made saw because I pretty much remade everything in the saw, That all being said, when I rebuilt the saw the new bearing / arm assembly came with new chucks.. and I used those for a while.. They worked fine.. so I would say if they are working for you then use them.. if you have issues I'd upgrade.. I don't notice the smoother running saw claim that Pegas says in their advertising.. but they are easier to use for sure. Scrappile
I have had both on excalibur, and The Pegas clamps are a nicer clamp, less mass and prettier.. But I agree they did not really change my saw's performance or mine... If I had the original clamp on an excalibur I would use then until something went bad. Then I would replace them with the pegas.. clamps. However there are others that feel much stronger about them. And I concede, they are a nicer clamp. Phil Royer
I put the Pegas clamps on a new dewalt and although I thought I could tell the difference, not being able to do a side by side comparison, I could not be sure. I bought a used Jet, the auto clamp worked okay, but really didn’t like it. Just put on a set of the Pegas clamps (with the white lever). The Pegas top clamps seems to be about a third the size of the Jet. It seems to definitely run smoother. Denny at Arrcrafters had a great price, and I got them quickly. OCtoolguy
I have them on both of my Ex's and very happy with them. I noticed a considerable difference in vibration. I find it much easier to mount blades with them and the flip lever is much smoother. At $200 I might have to really think about it but I'd surmise that everything costs more in NZ so maybe you are used to paying more. Denny Knappen has them on sale right now so that may help. Denny Knappen
Yes, we do sell the Pegas Chuck Head Set and they are on sale now until supplies last. I would not change the heads until you notice blade slippage. My price is $82.69 USD and I have no idea what the shipping cost is to New Zealand. The website is for USA customers, but if you would like to order, message me. OCtoolguy

William Eicehelberger
I have the Pagas holders on my EX saw they work well with no slippage and you always have the correct tension on the blade I think they are great addition to my saw no cleaning the blade is needed .
