Not a Success but close

Another attempt at segmented picture.  Not a success because I lost a couple pieces.  Two of the very thin line pieces were so thin they crumbled when I handled them and for some reason the black paint did not cure beyond tacky. I suppose I could fill the missing lines with white card stock.  Anyway this was a practice.  I enjoyed doing it.  Never has any problem with rust-oleum paint before, but it is still tacky and I painted it two days ago.  I love these pictures,  I have this one and a trumpet player.

Looks perfect as-is, I can't see any obvious "missing" lines.    Nicely cut!

 

What's the weather like in your area?  Humidity might keep the paint from curing fully.  Maybe give it some time under a heat lamp or blow-dryer?

I live in a pretty arid climate, sagebrush and cheatgrass.

I kinda agree with RabidAlien. Looks perfect to me. I can't see any missing pieces... even after you mentioned them. Looks like an outstand job to me.

Something you may want to try, If I spray paint my backer board black and then hit it with a clear while it is still tacky, the result with cause the black to crinkle giving it a texture. This doesn't work on all projects (esthetics wise) but I have had a few that I did it intentionally with pleasing effects. I have also had rattle cans of paint that seem to cure at different intervals, even from the same case... some as long as a couple days.

Paul, If you didn't say it, I wouldn't know it. Looks great to me. I do alot of patterns with black backers and my wife always gives me her brush on black acrylic  paint. It drys in no time and always comes out great. Give it a try.

Look gOOd to me!
I read a post awhile back that said something to the effect that cutting organic shapes is less critical perception-wise compared to geometric/letters/numbers.
Even looking for the ooopsie, I couldn't spot it.  
Makes me want to try portraits.

Maybe it has something to do with how you glued on the pattern. If you spray glue the pattern and used mineral spirits to remove it, perhaps the mineral spirits did not get all the glue off and then the paint was effected by that. Hey, what do I think I am doing? Trying to tell you what you problem is would be like me telling a doctor how to diagnose a sick patient. Boy, that was a silly thing for me to do.

 come to think about it, Paul.. I had the problem but with my finish. I sprayed a coat of clear finish on my project and then about an hour later I sprayed a second coat on it. I went back out into my shop to give it a final application and returned a couple of hours later and it was still tacky. Because our temperature is hovering just over 100 degrees here and it is so dry, the sprays usually dry almost before I put my spray can away. I returned to the house to watch TV and came out again in about an hour and a half and it was still tacky.. then it dawned on me that I had grabbed my can of spray glue instead of the finish spray.  Now stop laughing at me and don't tell anyone how stupid I am.

Thanks for the comments, you all are very lax with you critics and I appreciate it.  For some reason I really enjoy this kind of cutting.. I do not really know what to call it, but I have a book that says segmenting. I did this one because it relates to Jazz.   I have another one on the saw, a little easier, I think.  And  more planned.  I am and have been, most my life a Jazz fan.   Not all jazz is the same, but I like things like the Ramsey Lewis trio, Gene Krupa.   Guess I was always a little out of tune,, I liked rock and roll but I really liked jazz, big band music.  But when custom cars, hot rods were the thing, I loved them but I also was a sports car fan, big time.  When people are scrolling puzzles, fret work etc, intarsia, well here I am loving then but I really like segmented also.  My family was never military,,, but here I was I joined the Marine corps.   I guess maybe I am a black sheep.  Right now I have 1960's jazz going on youtube, my foot is stomping, my head is bobbing up and down.  Not sure it is in time with the music, but I am enjoying.

  I understand that  only  too well.  One night when Sharon was in Oregon and I stayed home, I was listening to music on my tablet before I went to bed and after I went to bed and there was no one in the house with me, I layed in bed for a few minutes and belted out some songs. About three songs into my little bout, my Amazon Lexa by my bed suddenly said, " Nice tune"    That was certainly weird.

Dick you are maybe right..And maybe I put the coats of paint on too quick and  too thick.  It has finally dried.

Thanks, you are correct.  From doing fret work, I try to get every detail, doing this I have to learn out what details may be okay to leave out.
