Eplfan2011 Posted September 28, 2022 Report Posted September 28, 2022 As many of you know I've been looking for a second saw, it's not intended to be my main saw but a backup or something my kids or wife can try out if they want. I still want something half decent as things happen and if my Hawk is down I'll still have something that's usable. I haven't had much luck online but I have come across a friend with a Wen LL 2156 for less than half price still in the box unopened. I can't really find a good review on it( I've seen the Steve Good one) and there's very little gossip on it floating around, so anyone chime in? Other than that there's a Delta 40 694 which appears to be in as new condition, I haven't seen any bad review but some of you guys say spares are a problem, they want $300 for it, oh and the Wen was $150. So do I wait or pick up one of these I'm tempted by the Wen just on the price alone..... OCtoolguy 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted September 28, 2022 Report Posted September 28, 2022 I haven't seen much talk on the WEN. There is a member on here ( or was ) that purchased one when they first came out about a year or so ago ( maybe 2 years now? ). Anyway, him and I had several private messages about saws for quite some time as he was thinking about a new Hawk or Hegner.. anyway long story short he bought one of these on a kinda emergency needing a saw now thing because he was moving from midwest to east coast and hadn't moved his few Hawks he had. I asked him 6 months later how the saw was and he said it was "okay" but lacked power when cutting thick 3/4" stock the motor would slow up. I've tried contacting him a few times recently and he seems to be offline.. If I remember correctly he worked a lot so I'm assuming he's been busy. That is all I know about the WEN. The Delta is not a bad saw, very similar to the DeWalt.. and while Delta does have issues with parts and support. Many of the parts are shared with the DeWalt.. I'm not sure but I would be more worried about the WEN than the Delta. That's just my opinion.. since I have no idea how parts would be for that saw as well.. especially 5 years from now.. I'm not sure the price of the Delta is a good deal or not.. maybe depending on the age.. I know Home Depot used to run specials on new ones for $300? Maybe it was 399? anyone else know? I know at one time the guys on the forums would post that they're on sale again and they was quite a bit cheaper.. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Eplfan2011 Posted September 28, 2022 Author Report Posted September 28, 2022 Thanks Kmmcrafts, I'm kind of surprised there's not much about the Wen floating around.... TBH the Delta looked like new, looked like it had been used a dozen times and parked. I'll check on the new prices, but lately everything seems to have skyrocket in price. Thanks again for the input! Eplfan2011 Posted October 2, 2022 Author Report Posted October 2, 2022 Progress on the saw front. I decided to bin the idea of the Wen as I could not really find any info on it good or bad. Got a message from the guy with the Delta saying he's willing to drop the price $100 as he just wants rid of it. He says it was his father's, only 7 months old and only used a half dozen times. I've looked around online and from what I see these are going between 5-600 dollars new so $200 seems fair if it in the condition he says it is. Anyway he's only 30 mins away so I've arranged to go see it this Wednesday evening and I'll go from there. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted October 2, 2022 Report Posted October 2, 2022 Did you get a chance to watch the review by Steve Good on the Wen. He was quite impressed. I'd love to have a chance at one to try out. It looks like a great saw and has some features that the Delta/Dewalts don't have. Try to watch his review. ChelCass 1 Quote

I watched it but I'm sceptical with any review where the goods were given to review.... And there's very little else out there OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Eplfan2011 Posted October 4, 2022 Author Report Posted October 4, 2022 Got a message around lunchtime from the guy with the Delta, saying I could come round after 3 today instead of tomorrow being as he's unexpectedly home. So off I go, boy he's a talker.... So here's the story his dad bought it about three weeks before he had a stroke( he's in a nursing home now ) and he thought he'd used it half a dozen times. He had sold most of the other stuff, saw stop, drum sander planer etc, but apparently no one wanted a scroll saw. Off we go to the garage and I kid you not, wrapped up in about 10 layers of plastic drop is this saw and it is pristine. Put a blade in I had bought with me (thanks guys ) cuts and runs great but the table is a bit sticky. We agree on $225 and off I go. I'm convinced this saw hasn't be used the sticky top was due to the factory stuff they put on to stop it rusting. I just cleaned it up and waxed it, gave it a good wipe down some dust on it, and it's like brand new... I'm very happy with it ! OCtoolguy 1 Quote
