Too bad about the wood, but still a nice looking clock... Last time I purchase a sheet of BB was 2 years ago.  It had no voids but more knots than usual.  Still useable, but not as good as I had always purchased before and at $60+ a 5' x 5' sheet, I doubt I will be purchasing more.   I will buy in small quantities.

Oh and that is a nice looking Jarguar in the background!

Very nice piece, Bernd. If you hadn't mentioned painting the edges I never would have known.

Concerning your wood, I live in a very rural location and the only access I have to a wood source locally is Lowes. Their quality of wood is very poor and I'm always having to deal with voids. Fortunately most of my projects are wall hangers and the edges are not a big issue however I am limited on the type projects I can cut. I'm still trying to build up my shop with wood working tools and my hope is to one day be able to resaw and plane my own material. Again, Lowes doesn't have much selection other than pine or popular. I guess they could special order such things as maple, walnut, cherry and other types.

Rodney, Just like you, we have only a Lowes that is 2 miles away that has the same selection including red oak. I always have to pick through the 1/4 inch stuff to see if it has blems like warped or cupped. Their 1/4" PW is not bad for backer boards but not when the end grain shows. My local woodcraft store is 30 miles away we always combine it with a trip to Greenville (great town). Up until recently the BBPW sheets have been good and I'll get the 2 sq' bubinga or padauk packs when it looks good and instock. I recently started using Ocooch with good results and will order from them for the better quality exotic woods.
