I had just built my 8 x 12 workshop and purchased my first scroll saw. A 16” Craftsman, and couldn’t wait to get started. Photo attached was my first project, and it was a Christmas gift for my mother. I think I spent at least three evenings till midnight completing this. I was finally done and proud as hell. My mother was very pleased, it was the first thing she would put out on display each Christmas season. When she passed in 2007 I received it back. Here it is. A Christmas window scene cut out on ⅛” oak and enclosed within an oak frame and red acrylic backing on a mahogany stand. Now my wife puts it out on display each Christmas season as well. I don't remember my first project, but I do remember cutting a couple of nativity sets for my daughters and getting so frustrated with trying to get a straight line! I adhered photos to Lexan and cut the human subjects away from the background. Then glued stands to the backs. Rather ugly. At the time, I was making cabinets in the Arts and craft style from QSWO for our new place and cut several Ginko leaves as decoration. After that, I never got back to scrolling and,eventually sold the saw. Now that I've been gifted a nice, hardly used, DeWalt 788, I'm anxious to get back to scrolling. Joining this group and subscribing to Steve Good's news letter, has certainly kept me interested in jumping back in again. I've recently been occupied with several resin coated Mesquite slab tables. One never stops learning because as soon as you think you’ve learned all there is to, someone will show you something you haven’t. The Dewalt you have is a very popular saw.
