Kids Christmas Gifts 2022

This is the 3rd year my wife and I have made gifts for our kids.  The first one for my son is Halo by Derek Hugger.  Its a spring loaded marble machine. If you look him up on youtube, you will see how it is suppose to operate. Unfortunately I still need to work on it as it binds up and does not run as smoothly as I'd like.   I tried to use walnut and oak where I could, but it often wasn't strong enough and I had to use plywood.  

The 2nd is a kids bakery counter for my daughter.  My wife did the detail work and painting.  1/2 inch ply, and 1/8 inch plexiglass.  No plans for this one just a rough cutlist we made.

I so love the bakery counter, I would have played with it all day if I'd had one.   Great work on both projects.

Both are great gifts! I'd love to make the marble machine for my grandson, but it looks very intimidating. I don't think I could be that precise.

Wonderful gifts.  I wife finally passed on a little wooden stove she got when she was a little girl.  Things like that are treasured.  Hats off to you for being brave enough to even try one of Derek Hugger's machines.  I love to visit his sight.  Always wanted to do the Colibri one, but I know it is beyond my skill level.  They are beautiful to watch.

Thank you.  I don't think I had the skillset either. Still trying to get it to work properly.  The gears have been a challenge.

His work is certainly next level.  I've watched it several times, and I am still amazed how realistic the movement is.

My wife said the same thing.  If my daughter ever gets tired of it, we will put it on wheels for events.

The display counter we finished over a long weekend.  The marble machine probably took me 100+ hours.  Cutting was around 10-20 hours.  I'm just not that proficient at cuts.  Yall could likely do it in half that time. 

 

I think for next year, I'm going to dial it back a bit and get the kids involved in building their sibling's gifts.
