Ken O
Been doing a lot of cutting latley getting ready for x-mas. I noticed that a few blades out of each package are dull right out of the package. Not every package but enough to notice. You can feel that the teeth are just not sharp. I had one package of #2-28 reverse tooth where about half the blades were junk. Anyone else have this happen?
WolfmoonCT
I haven't seen it no.
Mick
I use a lot of 2/0 28 t.p.i. Olson blades and find that some will last much longer than others in the same pack. Have never run into any that were dull though. Mick

Joey
Ken, No I haven't. I buy my blades from FD Mike and never had a problem. Regards, Joey
Ken O
Mike, maybe I'll have to give them a shot. I sent you my address. Much appreciated. It's just frustrating that you get one blade that lasts forever and the next one lasts 2 min in the same material, same pattern. Ken

otho96
I have a question about blades in general not sure if this is the best place for it or not. if not will move to different topic. I dont use olson blades 1 cuz they dont sell them around my area. and 2 i just forget to order them on line to try them out. But i do use the Bosch blades from Lowes. i know these are going to be more low end blades, but i to have had some blades that were dull. I have also noticed they break easy and the spiral blades everyone talks about well they just plan suck. Never stay on track wonder alot and never can get them to keep good tension on them. 1st question is on spiral blades. is this because they are the cheaper blades or do spiral blades wonder a bit and getting right tension on them just difficult for a newbie. and 2nd question is besides the simple Yes of course they are. Are the more expensive Olson blades or others that much better of a blade for someone like me NEWBIE to notice or just stick with cheaper blades till i get better to see difference thanks Jesse
Ken O
Mike, Message sent, thanks again. Jesse, I've gotten blades at Lowes before but not very often. Mostly because they never seem to have the right sizes. They are more expensive than the Olson blades too. I don't care for spiral blades myself but some people love them. I just can't get used to the randomness of the cut. I only use them if I have to but some people use only spirals. Ken
Robert Phillips
Im new to the hobby also and have bought a selection of Olson blades. I find them really good except for the spiral I am having the same issues with the blade "wandering" all over the place. My favorite blades atm are the crown tooth. Beeber
I'm not sure why people complain about spirals. I use them exclusively and after playing with the speed of the blade find they track perfectly. I enjoy them because I am not forced to change pattern direction as often as with a straight blade. Usually buy mine from Winfield Scroll Collections.
chippygeoff
While I was waiting for Mike's blades to arrive I bought several packs of Olson blades, never again. When I placed the order I was confused by the way they number the blades and yet everyone else states if is a number 3 blade or a number 5. When the blades arrived I was shocked to find that a third of them were twisted. I would clamp the bottom first and the top of the blade would then be at right angles to the clamp. Only by using pliers could I get the blade in the clamp. A few days later Mikes blades arrived. I was in heaven, what an amazing blade the ultra reverse is and now I use nothing else. They are that good I have very little if any cleaning up to do afterwards and I cut birch ply as well as a variety of hardwoods in different thicknesses. jerryd
Have found that spirals are not so bad if you keep alot of pressure on the wood to the table. Also find that thicker wood is easier to do this with. Hope this helps.
heppnerguy
When I discovered blades other than from Lowes or Home Depoe..my saw and myself started performing like a song. You can not get small enough blades in the stores, like mentioned above. as soon as you start using the Olson blades, you will find that you will be amazed as to what you are able to do with them that you had difficulty trying to do before...Look up Mikes workshop on the internet and do yourself a favor...buy and try..you will never be sorry you did. Marshall
Never had any luck with most of the Olson blades , but any blade can always give you problems for one - the speed is too fast - the pressure your applying is too much - the type of wood your using - in general sometimes it's possible a bad blade can get by - and also it could just be one of those days that you should have stayed away from the scrollsaw , and I've had a day like this before . But in general Mike's F-D Blades are the best in all the years I've been scrollong , like I've said some days - are better in the house watching TV . I don't have these very often, and another thing is when you've had a long day at the saw and things seem to start going wrong or not good in you line of thinking - it would be good practice to learn how to quit and go in . My two cents worth .......But Mike's Blades .............MB
gunnerb47
Ken, Now that you brought that up, I realize how true this is. A friend of mine was asking about blades and I told him that I was planning on trying out Mike's After reading all this I am definitely going to order some form Mike. I have been sitting here most of the afternoon wielding away the afternoon reading post. Very educational and interesting. Bill
