Busy Holidays

In addition to the holidays, I had to use some vacation time or end up losing it, so I had a lot of time in the shop the last couple weeks. Unfortunately, I didn't spend the entire time on the saw. I was able to clean up my shop, get rid of stuff taking up space and get ready for some new equipment. The new scroll saw is ordered, and my next purchase will be a bandsaw capable of resawing large material. Then a thickness planer and jointer. Finally, with the shop looking a lot better, I did spend some time on the saw. I finished cutting Jim Blume's Americana 15 which I double stacked. Both were finished with Minwax Natural stain on Birch and for the backers, one was painted black and the other was stained with Minwax Espresso. Both were sprayed with multiple coats of Polyacrylic with light sanding between coats. I still have to make frames which will be 1 X pine ripped to 1 1/2 inches wide. Unfortunately, I didn't have any 1 X material in stock. The grain of the pine will determine how I stain the frame. Thanks, Jim, for a great pattern. I believe this is the sixth in the series I have finished.

I've also included a few photos on the shop showing the various workstations. One shows the staining and gluing station, one shows my spray station and the last shows my saw (scroll and table) as well as my sanding and pattern gluing station in the background. Hope you enjoy.

I spent a bit of time cleaning up my scraps.  Threw some wood out!!!  Created a new storage area.  Used a shoe rack for putting the bins on.  Looking at it, I think I should clean out a bit more!!  Hubby might be right (Don't tell him that).  Some of my scraps are quite small.

Barb, you know if you throw out a piece of wood it would be the exact size you would need the following day.

Wish I had the ambition to do that to my shop.  I like the pictures, well done.  Why do you get two John Deeres.  I have one I keep working on trying to get one more season out of it..

Paul, I'll sell you the diesel John Deere. Runs great with only a little cosmetic damage. Scrapes and dings. You could fly to the east coast and drive it back... Shouldn't take but about, what, 8, 10 months?

I have 20 acres and mow about half that. My land joins timber land and if I let it grow up, the timber rattlers seem to move in. I keep as much mowed as possible so I can see the slithering critters.

My shop is 40' X 40' and you'd be surprised how quickly it can fill up if you're not careful. I do have the diesel tractor for sell. Plan to use the cash to purchase more wood working tools. 😁
