Dan
I found a board in my woodpile that I think is purpleheart. It's been a long time since I've worked with it. The outside looks like purpleheart but the inside has no purple color. I know purpleheart will darken with exposer to air/light but was surprised to see this inside. I've getting ready to turn a pen with it and it will be interesting to see it change. Can anyone tell me if they've seen purpleheart look like this beneath the exposed surface? It also smells pretty bad when cut. I'll have my dust mask ready when I turn this stuff. Top photo is inside and bottom photo is outside. Scrappile
I have never see it like the top picture. I have used quite a bit of it over the years. scrollingforsanity and OCtoolguy
kmmcrafts
I've used a fair amount of it too and have never seen the inside look like that. Typically the inside is bright purple and will fade into a brownish purple over time on the outside. post a photo of the pen when finished. I'd like to see how it ends up.
