I am going to build my own bench for my scroll saw, something I can sit down and work. Can anubody help me with the height of the bench so I can sit comfortably and work away. My old back hurts bent over all the tine. Thanks for your help and I hope you all have a happy new year and your dreams and wishes come true. All the best Martin
WolfmoonCT
my suggestion, would be to take what chair your going to use, and sit down.. use something like a piece of scrap wood in front of you, to mark a height that is where you think would be comfortable. Use that as the total height. then measure how tall your saw is from the base to the table top, and subtract that from the total height. That should give you your bench height. qlty
I have my SS set low so I can look down on the pattern and see where the blade is cutting with out bending over too much.In my opinion the stand that came with my DeWalt 788 was designed for scrolling while standing up or sitting on a tall stool,I have the saw now about 1/3 of that height and sit in a computer type chair with arm rests and my legs strattel the narrow wood bench I made, this works for me and is less tiring. chippygeoff
My bench from floor to bench top is 34 inches high and on this I have an excalibur 21, a Dewalt 788, a drill press and some other bits and pieces. Some may say it is a little high but as Wolfmoon said, it all depends on what you are sitting on. I have a stool with a back and arms and it suits me fine. I am quite close to the workpiece when cutting. When you make your bench make sure it has a thick top and you may want to add a thick rubber mat for the scroll saw to stop as much vibration as possible. geoff3
Hi Traceguy, I to like to sit looking down on the workpeice, but some scrollers sit infront of the saw and look at about a 45 deg angle, saw a picture of Flying Dutchman Mike at his saw and he seems to sit very low. what ever suits you is right for you.......Geoff3
sullyscroller
set the bench height to the chair you are going to use and a trick i learned from messman is to raise the back of your saw about 20 degrees. it helps with your back cause you are not hunched over the work. Try a temp block under the back to see how it feels. sully
Beeber
I went online and researched the building of a bench for scroll saws. It was very good outcome. I then drilled through the bench where the holes on the base were and put threaded rods up through the bench and the saw base, secured with nuts above and below. By moving the nuts, I was able to get the right angle for sawing and looking straight at the lines. Try internet search.
