BadBob
This turned up on my local Craigslist, and I am trying to figure out what it is. The posts are pretty bad. I do wish they had put better model numbers on these. scrollingforsanity and OCtoolguy 1
dgman
It says right on the Tag. It’s a 220 VS. scrollingforsanity and OCtoolguy 1
OCtoolguy
It looks like a fairly late 220VS. Ultra? Not a bad looking saw. How much? BadBob and scrollingforsanity
kmmcrafts
It's a 220VS ( Variable Speed ) 20" saw which is the "Ultra" version.. Guessing on the serial number and the logo used on the uprights I think it's probably a year 2000 or newer.. Has the added side table option.. scrollingforsanity, OCtoolguy and BadBob 2
BadBob
Ultra was what I was looking for. How can you tell the age from the serial number? On the Bushton site there are four 220VS manuals listed. When I look at the manuals for these they all seem to have the round bottom clamp in the illustrated parts break down, but the text in the manual contrdicts this saying that the lower clamp is T-Shaped. When did they stop using the round clamps? scrollingforsanity and OCtoolguy

When did they stop using the round clamps? I've just looked at a lot of them and called Bushton a million times asking for info on the saws, LOL You are correct though as I was thinking the 226VS on the serial number and they have a total different series for the 220VS.. That said, that logo at the back of the saw is a newer style logo than any of my saws have other than my new saw of coarse, LOL.. I'm not exactly sure when they stopped the round clamps.. but I know they had the T clamp ( Ultra ) style in 1996.. I had a 1993 220VS with round clamps so sometime between there is when the Ultra came out.. To be honest I think 1996 was the first year of the Ultra as I have not seen any older than that.. but I'm really guessing since I'm just basing on what I've seen and read online.. Rolf claims he bought his G4 when they first hit the market in 2005 so I'm guessing that was the ending of the Ultra... However, I've never seen a 20" G4 saw.. SO they might have ran the Ultra style on the 20" saw up until the new BM series came out around 2010-12 ish.. OR maybe the only option at that time was only a 26" saw.. Hawk wasn't and still isn't good at updating the manuals.. They used up their supplies before changing, LOL.. and even then they were less than desirable.. same with stickers they put on the saws.. I wouldn't doubt there could be G4 saws out there with serial tags and stickers for a Ultra.. Yet they seem good at knowing the type and year of saw based on serial number.. LOL.. BadBob
So I need to call Bushton and ask them about the serial number. The saw is too far away to take a look. DME72
looks like a good saw. if you ask the owner what brand of motor it has it would be easier to tell the date of manufacture. i have a chart from another site i was on that shows what years the various brand motors were used. not exact but a good timeline. is the seller reasonable on the price? scrollingforsanity and OCtoolguy 1

Oldmansbike
That looks identical to the one I bought several years ago. It was made in 1999 and had a serial number 34@@@ so it’s probably made around 2000. Just my guess. I think all the vs models had the square clamps. DME72
only the new ultra saws had the square clamps, as far as i have seen. these saws are built to use, and will last many years with some basic maintenance. OCtoolguy
From what I recall on my 226 Ultra, if there are a couple of small holes (about 1/8") in the upper are on the right hand side, that is where you mount the square clamp for loading blades and tightening the set screws. If those holes aren't there I'd think it means round clamps.
kmmcrafts
It'd be nice when people are selling these used Hawk saws if they'd take photos of the clamps or at least the lower arm where the clamps go.. Very seldom do I find one for sale that actually takes photos of the clamps and or the lower arm.. OCtoolguy
