Then H/F came out with their 5000 lumen LED lamps for $20 ea. I put four up in place of what I had. My little shop is so well lit now that sometimes I turn 2 if them off. I also have H/F lighted magnifiers mounted on the wall with LED replacement bulbs in them. I have NO problem seeing my work. If I make a mistake it's usually from loss of concentration. I DO like a lot of light. I would love to have more light. The problem I have is the roof in 'my' shop is over 12 feet high. It is actually my husbands Orchard equipment building and I use a small piece of it (however I am slowly making gains in space, I don't think he has noticed...yet ) Anyway, I transgress...So the lights are way up there and my little lamp by my saw is casting shadows. You have given me an idea though...we have extra giant Hallogen lights we use in one of our Greenhouses (the whole thing weighs about 40 pounds), Perhaps I could hang one of those above me. The added benefit is they also give off quite a bit of heat so I would be warmer as well.... I think, though, I still could use a lighted magnifier. I'd say buy a couple lights from H/F and hang them above you saw with chain. Get them down to about 7 feet from the floor. 2 would be plenty but still get a magnifier. Great idea about hanging them from a chain.....Plus, I did a google search about the harmful effects of Halogen lights and they emit UV rays so I could actually get sunburned...so that is out. I hope to go to HF tomorrow...if we don't get snowed in....Crazy March Thanks again! Marie OCtoolguy
BadBob
Here is where I got my current shop lights. https://www.omniraylighting.com/ I wanted link-able surface mount lights and the Harbor Freight lights did not fit the bill. As it turned out these were exactly what I wanted and they were cheaper than Harbor Freight. They are the easiest light fixture you will ever install. TAIrving
This is the Ottlite I have for my scroll saw. I have no issues with strobing. It has a strong, white light and the magnifier works well for me. These are not inexpensive, but might be worth the price. This one lists for $149.99 but they are offering a $40 discount. I bought mine through JoAnns and my wife had a 40% off coupon. rash_powder
I have an Ottlite, not sure if it is LED or not though. I would like an LED one as the light seems to be brighter and more directed; at least to me anyway. If you watch the sale ads JoAnne Fabrics every now and again will have Ottlite marked down 50% off. Sometimes there is a coupon in the app. Sometimes it all stacks. Thats how I got mine. MarieC and OCtoolguy 1

Works for me and well. Thanks to everyone for your help on my lighting situation! So much information but it helped me make a decision. I went ahead and bought the Ottlite at JoAnn's it was on sale plus I have a 25% off coupon so it was $73 and I just picked it up. My oh my, that is sooo much better. However, I think I will need to hang some lights over head from some chains for my entire side of the orchard shop. I will need to wait until the snow melts to uncover our orchard Ladders because those rafters are way up there. I like the idea of the linkable lights because I have a long skinny side of the building for my workspace (kind of like a long hallway).... but I will also look into the Harbor Freight. I also will buy a sewing machine light because I think that will help just a bit more. Thanks again! BadBob

I got a HF light on sale - 4 LED tube type and hung it over my workbench. Gives plenty of light and eliminates shadows like those cause by the ceiling lights when I was working anything. The pull chain was sticking at the point where the chain goes into the switch, causing it to hang up. I shot a spritz of WD40 into it and now it works fine. They are being overrun with homeless RVers.
TAIrving
Our Walmarts here in the Houston area are also being overrun by an interesting assortment of people, not the same for any 2 stores. I think (not an original idea) that Walmart is missing a business opportunity. They could put in an observation balcony and sell wine. They could even put in some of the binoculars, those which require a coin to operate, for observing the shoppers on the main floor. Gene Howe
I use a pair of magnetized sewing machine lights. One on each side eliminates shadows. For a magnifier, I really like this one. https://a.co/d/faHL9am. Being worn on my head, there's little need for viewing adjustment.
