Poppy's Workshop

Recommended Posts

In the market to upgrade from my old Ryobi scroll saw after years of use. Any recommendations for a new saw? Have been researching the Dewalt 788 and the King Industrial 16" model. Any information on either of these or any other models would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch,

Richard

If you do much angle cutting I'd definitely look at the King over the DeWalt.. The ability to adjust the blade cut aggression is also a nice feature on the King. I had a DeWalt and also have a Excalibur ( basic same saw as the King ). I liked the large table of the Dewalt, if you use the factory style stands.. I also like the Dewalt better.. but as I said if angle cutting then i'd go with King.. Both awesome saws really..

If you like the Dewalt check out Delta and Wen. Wen has recently brought out a saw designed around the time-tested Dewalt but with many upgrades. The price is about the same as a Dewalt when they are on sale. The Delta is really just a Dewalt with an upper arm lock. Don't be tempted by the new Excalibur saws. They are Chinese knockoffs of a REAL Excalibur. Good luck on whatever you choose.

Thanks everyone for the information provided. At this point I am pretty sure (99%) that I will be ordering the 16" King Canada saw. Due to the tilting head and the smaller footprint of the saw it will work better in my small shop and do everything that I need it to do.

Thanks again,

Richard

WEN LL2156 21-Inch 1.6-Amp Variable Speed Parallel Arm Scroll Saw with Extra-Large Dual-Bevel Steel Table

I'm not looking to buy; just curious about this one. Tha above links the Wen company page.

I just bought this saw in December.  I totally love it.  It has many nice features that the Dewalt has and probably a few more.  Love the large table that is smooth (slick) allowing the piece I am cutting to move easily.  Blade tension is so easy to adjust and blade installation is a breeze.  Clean out is super easy with the two drop down sides.  Steve Good did a video on this saw and this is one of the reason I chose this saw.  It seems people are having several different issues with the Dewalt so that was a turn-off for me.  Now if you scroll to sell then this may not be the saw for you.
