Scrappile Posted April 1, 2023 Report Posted April 1, 2023 Very nice. I need to build on for my walking stick... I have been using it since the 1970's and carving on it. Not good carving, around the campfire with a #10 Buck knife carving. The one thing the grandkid fight over who is going to get grandpa's walking stick when he croaks. Croaks is the term they use,,, I think it is one of my pronouns now. Charlie E, barb.j.enders and heppnerguy 3 Quote

That's the kind of heirlooms I care about! One of my favorite things I got from my dad are two larger rocks he got out of the creek in The Smoky Mountains. Another is his shoeshine box. I honestly thought while making this holder that I hope one of my kids or grandkids want it someday. Whenever I think that might be the case I put "Pop" on the back, rather than my initials. Quote
Scrappile Posted April 1, 2023 Report Posted April 1, 2023 (edited) Yep, Those are the really deep down thing to pass on. They hold the memories. Put "POP" pm the back it will increase the value to grandkids 10 fold! Edited April 1, 2023 by Scrappile Charlie E 1 Quote

One reason I gave up deer hunting was being completely lost a couple of times. I do like hiking, but only when there’s a trail. wombatie 1 Quote
heppnerguy Posted April 2, 2023 Report Posted April 2, 2023 Now there is a project I would never even dreamed about making. Great idea. Dick heppnerguy Charlie E, Fish and danny 2 1 Quote
Fish Posted April 2, 2023 Report Posted April 2, 2023 Great work. My wife and I have some walking sticks. I think I have 18 all made from Osage orange and contorted hazelnut. They all sit in a big bucket now. A few I made for a friend. Doing that is a great idea. Charlie E 1 Quote
aj43 Posted April 3, 2023 Report Posted April 3, 2023 (edited) TO: Scrappile (above replier) Get even with those croakin' grandkids. Make a walkin' stick for each of them and make the handle with one of those frogs that you rub with a stick along their ridged back to make it "croak." You'll have a whole family of "little croakers" and they'll each one have a personal memory from you. The frog handle will be your challenge!
