Hello spring

The better half asked me to cut this for her. 

I'm more comfortable cutting trying to cut something like this on the hawk as it's more forgiving, but I thought I'd give it a go on the more aggressive Delta. Just to make it more difficult I decided to use the more aggressive MGT blades too (normally I use a less aggressive blade on the Delta)

 Well I must admit I struggled with this Steve Good pattern but I did manage to get it cut even though it took me a while. Fresh off the saw

Nice work, Colin. Is that two separate pieces or is it the same piece, one with the pattern on and the other with the pattern off?

I own a Delta, So far I have had no complaints with it. Love your cutting. I can see with the Leaves that you would have some time in cutting them. I am sure your Wife Loved it.

Where in Alaska are you? Courtesy of the USAF, I spent some time in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Both in the summer and winter. We saw -52 one winter in Fairbanks. Was in Anchorage for the quake,  too. Helped clean up from the Tsunami that hit Seward.

Anchorage, Eagle River and now Trapper Creek.  Been here since 85' and never leaving.   Visited Fairbanks a hand full of times in both summer and winter.  I believe the -52 for sure, and luckily haven't experienced it.  I think -40 is as low as I've been in.  Still too cold.

Yep. We saw antifreeze freeze solid in the can at -52.

  Very well done. With all the sharp points on the maple leaves, I can understand why it took awhile to cut. However that patterns that take us a long time to cut, are the ones that are always the most satisfied when we finish them.  One question for you... How do you go about cutting those sharp pointed areas? Just wondering as I have done them so many different ways as I have been doing my scrolling and it seems every once in awhile I change the way I do them

Don't forget I'm only a beginner

For the inside ones I've been cutting up to the point backing up and spinning the blade 180 into the waste and going in backwards then cutting out. The outside ones I cut to the point and spin 360 into the waste and then back up the other side.  The only drawback is it takes so much time. I was really tempted to just turn them, but I'm not good enough to keep the edges square doing that, I round them off.

that is a good way to do it. I use it on rare occasions too.
