Gene Howe
Before I shell out for them I think it would be a good idea to ask y'all if they would make clamping the lower end easier. What's your thinking? Thanks in advance. OCtoolguy
dgman
Gene, the Pegas clamps will make your saw easier to use and run better. They will hold your blade tighter and reduce blade slippage, that is until the set screws and thumb screws wear. I don’t know if they will be any easier to clamp the bottom clamp as you will have to adjust to a different clamp. But once you get used to them, you will love them. I have a Pegas saw and love it. I also have them on my DeWALT saw. barb.j.enders, OCtoolguy and Gene Howe 1
OCtoolguy
What Dan said. I have 2 Excaliburs and have added the Pegas clamps to both. Love them. And so far, no blade slippage. If they start slipping I'll just get out my sanding jig that Dan suggested. Gene Howe
Eplfan2011
I'll echo what everyone else says, have them on my Delta and they work so much better! OCtoolguy

Which Delta do you have? I'm running the 20" 40-694 and have had no issues with the clamps. Just wondering if I need to be concerned about them in the future and if the Pegus ones will fit my machine. Thanks. OCtoolguy
flarud
I have read these posts before many times. I have the Dewalt and have never had any blade slippage. I have had to adjust the set screw on occasion to avoid getting the "hockey stick" put into the tips of my blades. At this time, I don't see how the Pegas clamps would help me. I'll continue to reads these posts though. OCtoolguy

When my clamps started to slip, I got the Pegas clamps and they work well. My saw vibrates less now. I got them through Denny at artcraftersscrollsaw@gmail.com. Denny Knappen
If there are no problems, don't fix it. With that said, as a Pegas dealer, it is a great aftermarket addon. The biggest reason is 40% lighter, so less vibration. I have stock available, OCtoolguy
Gene Howe
My reasoning was that that it might be easier to clamp the bottom clamp. For me, it's a royal PITA. . Edited April 11, 2023 by Gene Howe OCtoolguy
Bill WIlson
What problems are you having with the lower clamp? I don't have the Pegas clamps on my saw, but my understanding is that they employ a thumbscrew against setscrew style that is very similar to standard Dewalt clamps. The biggest difference is the Pegas clamp bodies themselves are made from machined aluminum, rather than the cast aluminum bodies original to the Dewalt. If I'm wrong about this, hopefully someone with the Pegas clamps will set me straight. OCtoolguy

Maybe I just need practice. Edited April 11, 2023 by Gene Howe OCtoolguy

Bill WIlson
There was a recent thread that discussed blade loading. Youi might find some helpful tips on blade loading there. https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/49085-dw788-blade-clamps/#comment-515645 OCtoolguy
Gene Howe
Thanks a bunch, Bill. I'll certainly try that. OCtoolguy
Eplfan2011
I always secure the blade in the top clamp, drop it through and secure the bottom one (it doesn't take but a second to align the blade in the bottom clamp) then I'll undo the top clamp and bottom feed ..... I don't undo the bottom clamp again till I change blades. I've tried top feeding but ..... I guess I'm so used to bottom feeding ..... barb.j.enders, Gene Howe and OCtoolguy

barb.j.enders
I switched to the Pegas clamps on my DeWalt when I kept over tightening the thumb screws and deformed the blade clamps. OCtoolguy
