I think these paddle wheelers are so cool and always enjoy it when I see one cruising a river. I immediately knew I needed to get this pattern and cut it. So I bought this pattern for just over $4 and set about seeing how I was going to cut it and how. I have to say, I did do a little bit of changes on the pattern as I cut it because I did not like everything about it but I wanted to keep it as close to the original as I could out of respect for the pattern maker. I really did not understand what the strange shapes on the windows were and decided not to cut everyone of them but did most of the them. Because I had so many comments about the frame I used on the recent moose pattern I cut, I decided to try and make the frame match the object within it. I decided to groove the frame on my router and insert a rope in the groove. My thinking on this was the connection of an anchor and anchor rope. The next problem I had was where the rope ends met at the bottom of the frame so I decided to cut me an anchor to help cover the rope connection. I was going to make my anchor outline of a different color for accent but really was not satisfied with the look so I left them the same color. I cut this with a #3 MGT Pegas blade on a 3/8 BB Ply. I put a shellac finish on the frame and just waxed the surface of the rest of the project. I have to say that I am not completely satisfied with the end results and if I ever make another one of these I think I would not put the rope in the frame and I would cut all the windows in their natural shape and forget whatever is going on in them, in the pattern. I will most likely cut another in the future but I will change more about the pattern that I really do not care for, next time. I never gave framing a thought until I posted the moose and I was told by several people that the frame did not fit the pattern subject. I always thought, the fancier the frame the better it is. It was a good learning lesson for me. I tried to imagine something more fitting for this one and the rope and anchor seemed to be one answer. But comparing it to the same frame I made before I thought about the rope idea, was more appealing to me. Fun to finally have an idea . Thanks again for taking your time to compliment my work. That was my first thought when I looked at your picture. May not look as real if you change it,,, but then again, maybe with the windows window shape I may think still cool, just a cloudy day! I am so glad that part of our pass has not gone away like so many other things have. I am happy to hear that you like it, always nice that one's work goes unnoticed. Even when the reaction is negative, which you rarely see in The Village, but even that is very helpful and should be constructive to the one that receives it, as it was for me when I had a good lesson in framing, which I am very thankful for. I just believe is takes away from the boat instead of adding. It turns out to just be a guess so that makes it a 'take away item' for me. I don't want to be guessing what it is supposed to be, I would rather know what I am looking at. The covering the ends of the rope with the anchor was also a smart move. The cutting, in my opinion, is flawless. If you do plan to recut and add the rope, my only suggestion would be to put the join in the corner with the anchor there. I would also place that on the right hand corner by the bow of the boat. I just feel that the reflections of the windows, takes away from the reality and makes one start to guess as to what is going on in the pattern. I still think the next one I cut will not include the reflections and I will make a decision as to how I prefer it to be cut or at least give anyone that might be interested in having one, the choice. It appears that I am in the minority so that says my thoughts on it are also. I am glad other opinions are offered as I often learn a lot from them and I thank you for your honest comments. I was looking at black or blue for my background and got several votes on the two colors before I made up my mind and blue was the most voted color. Funny how everyone sees things a little differently, isn't it? So happy for you opinion though, thanks for the suggestion. Question.....Have you had the opportunity to visit with Paul,(scrappile) yet. If not, the weather is getting warmer for travel in your parts now.... I also want to tell you that I am so happy that you have stayed in close connection with The Village, as you have discovered, if one makes the effort to log on often as you have done, they quickly find that they suddenly feel like they have a lot of new friends or even become a part of a new family...
