Need help with a better stool/seat

So this is what I am sitting on and well....my bottom is not really happy with it.  You all helped me with my lighting problem,  blades, clamps, etc.  So I thought I should get some suggestions on a seat.  Should I find a stool with wheels?  Someone said they sit on a seat from a boat (was it Dick, Jerry, or?) Anyway, no luck at finding any boat seats around here.  Would love to see pics or suggestions.   20230423_164400.thumb.jpg.53a023f674c2ab66bb4a5e91ed8ed70f.jpg

I really love this stool. Took a bit to get used to.  It doesn't go quite as high as most stools but it also goes to chair height. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F8NXBXD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks Dave, That might work for me and it looks comfy and I do not need a back since I never sit back.... maybe I should, but I don't. But I might need a higher seat since I am a bit short....I will measure the current height of my seat and see how it compares.  Thanks again

I have an office chair salvaged from a site here in our park. It has arm rests which I like and I lean back while pondering & fitting and sanding etc.

I do ponder at times, but most of the time I just stand up and walk around to give my bottom a break, so a back rest might be nice....

Marie, if your present stool works for you (other than your bottom not being happy) have you tried sitting on some type of cushion?

Thank you for the idea.....Well, I think the height works and I did try a small pillow but it would slide off and fall on the floor so I gave up on it.  I also think I could use some wheels, because sometimes I swing around a longer piece of wood and it hits me in the tummy/chest area....sometimes I am pivoting a piece and wonder why it doesn't pivot anymore and I look down and it is hung up on me! (I have been wearing a coat since it is still cold up here in the Northwest) so then I try to lean back to get out of the way and the other day I almost fell over backwards.  So I think wheels would be good too....

I rescued my chair from the dumpster, at work.  I added some padding and new cover to the seat.  It swivels, has wheels, adjustable height and an adjustable back.  I agree, the back doesn't really serve much purpose when scrolling, but I use my chair at the bench as well, so occasionally I do lean back.

I wouldn't want arms on my shop chair, as they would get in the way.  The space between my scroll saw and my bench is pretty tight, so being able to freely spin & move around is much more valuable to me than arm rests.

You know for under 30 bucks a you can purchase a longer cylinder that will lift it and you higher.  I just replaced on my stool a couple month ago, very easy to do.  Watch YouTube.

I bought my chair before getting the saw. so I built the saw stand to match the chair height. The stand has a front tilt at 15° and, that puts the front edge of the table 2.5" below the chair arms. So far, the chair arms don't get in my way. It's quite comfortable.  I did have to velcro rhe foot control to a short piece of 2X4.

The chair I posted was not too expensive but gives me and my back good support and has foot rests.  I would spend whatever is needed to get a proper chair that allows me to scroll or work in comfort. Given the state of my back and the hardware in it, I need a very good chair to allow me to work.

I also use it for working at my bench which  I created a pullout shelf with heavy duty under mount full extension slides.  I do a lot of work on it and have a Panavise that I can attach to it.

Do you,or anyone else who has wheels on their stool, have any problem staying in place while scrolling?   I have a very ucomfortable cheap shop stool without wheels that I would like to replace.

As far as the stool moving while scrolling, you have to push against something to make it move.  Not really a thing I do while scrolling, but useful when I want to get something a ways away from the scroll saw and don't want to walk.  Though I do have a bit of a problem with the sloping floor in the basement where my shop is.

Just to give you more info.

The old chair was a drafting style chair I found behind office building.  It lasted about 3 yrs before my bottom went numb.   So my wife found this Viper chair.  Boy does it roll.  I have to have a foot mat under it.  It took me about 3 weeks for my bottom to adjust.  But now I sit in it for 4 to 5 hours at a time.   I still work from home.

On the weekends I roll it over to my scrollsaw and it does good.

I don't, but I'm pretty well wedged in where I sit at my scroll saw, so movement is limited.  My feet are typically resting on something other than the chair, so that helps keep me anchored.   I also have anti-fatigue mats on the floor, so that lends some resistance to the chair wheels rolling involuntarily.

The seat I use is a hybrid. The seat came from this chair https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/vibrant-drafting-stool-with-tractor-seat?cm_vc=-10005

the bottom came from this chair https://www.harborfreight.com/biker-style-pneumatic-roller-seat-63756.html

The tractor seat is very comfortable to sit on but the bottom ring broke fairly quickly.

The motorcycle seat was very uncomfortable for me to sit on (not sure if that changed after my hydrocele surgery).

So I took the tops off and switched them, before putting the top back on the chair I added a plywood platform that fits on the foot ring (for the foot switch). The chair seat is tall enough to use with the factory stand that came with the Hegner, the foot switch is a comfortable height from the seat ( the switch on the floor is too far to reach comfortably ).

I don't expect you to buy two new chairs to get one that works, just showing how to get creative with solutions :)

That looks like a fun seat!  Great way to make a chair out of two broken ones!
