jerry walters
Friends have asked me about Flea Markets and craft fairs. I tell them I worked for almost 60 years and now am retired. I don't care to have another job. I enjoy scrolling and make things for family, friends and myself. I get a lot of satisfaction giving stuff away. meflick
Hope you get to enjoy your time sawing now that you can do it without having to worry about the sales. MarieC, ChelCass, OCtoolguy and 4 others
wombatie
I have only ever done one market and I hated it. If I get any customers it is always from word of mouth. Rest your body Bobby, you only get one. Marg OCtoolguy, don watson, Gene Howe and 3 others 5
Wilson142
I've never been happier scrolling now that I've decided it's about the out come, not the income. No more looking at patterns that I think might sell, and then spending countless hours cutting the same thing, over and over. Now I rarely cut a pattern more than once and I enjoy giving it all away. lawson56, don watson, OCtoolguy and 2 others
Dak0ta52
I don't know if I should congratulate you or send condolences. I feel certain you will be much happier scrolling for your family and yourself. The projects you complete will be much more meaningful. Regardless, I'm glad you'll be sticking around so we can see you great works here at the Village. barb.j.enders
Congrats on your "retirement ". I have been doing 1 or 2 sales a year, and that is more than enough. I haven't figured out what people like, so I am generally making stuff Iike. OCtoolguy, MarieC, don watson and 1 other
TAIrving
My family are saturated with scroll saw works I have given them. They have gently suggested that I try selling some of my stuff (rather than giving it to them.) OCtoolguy
I don't blame you. I hate doing anything too much. If I have something that somebody really likes I make one for them. If someone asks me for something I've not done I will price it according to my "wanting" to make it. Most often just time & materials. If my price is too high it means that I probably didn't want the job. My hobby is for my benefit. We have no room left for many more projects. So if I make something now, I have to find a home for it. barb.j.enders, lawson56, don watson and 2 others
don watson
I'm with Octoolguy (RAY) here. The majority of stuff I make is given away. I will make pieces to order but the price will indicate whether I like doing it or not. I reckon friends and family have more pens, baskets and intarsia pieces than they can cope with. I will concentrate on (prbably) animal jigsaw puzzles for my great-grand-children and pieces I can make for the Men's Shed as they can (and do) supply a lot of wood etc. and my pieces sell well at open days, spring fairs et c. lawson56 and barb.j.enders

I'm going through the same decision process myself. I can do anything I could when I was 20, but I may not be able to get out of bed the next day. When I had the tree in the front yard taken down and slabbed I stacked and stickered all the planks (about 125 ) except one; I had a lot of trouble getting around for 2 days cause my feet hurt so much ( bone spurs all through my mid back). I'll be keeping an eagle eye out for next day problems after setting up for the market on Saturdays

Oldmansbike
I’m with Wichman I can pretty much still do most things except roofs but it takes me a couple of days to recover from doing them. I just turned 70 last month and I have a wonderful son that will help me whenever I need it.
