rdatelle
Hi everyone. I was watching Steve Goods Video this morning of Artisan Pirate making key chains with Steve's key chain software . I have his software program but I can't figure out how to make it into a compound cut pattern like Artisan Pirate did. I'm able to get the names on one piece of paper but there different sizes. I printed the top name out twice and just cut off the ends and taped them on to make it the same size as the bottom one. Here's a picture of what I did but there's got to be a better way. Thanks Ralph. OCtoolguy
jollyred
Seems like having both names the same length would work. Try adding letters to the shorter name. Might have to play around to get even lengths using letters like "I" and "W". Otherwise, I would put them in Inkscape and use that. But, if you can use Inkscape, you wouldn't need to use Steve's program. Catch 22. Tom Edit: just looked at Artisan Pirates video, he used extra spaces in the two part name to get the lengths the same. jerry walters
Hey Ralph, I think I figured it out. Tested with my name. Made one with my last name according to Steve's instructions, then made one with my first name. I think his program letters and the space take up the same amout of space. Luckily for me my last name has 7 characters and first name has 5, so worked out pretty easy. Will test tomorrow with maybe an odd number of characters and an even number of characters. Maybe add some special characters to even it out. On your example I think if you put an extra space before and after your first name. Tested it out, works perfect. rdatelle
Jerry, I did another one with an extra space at the beginning and the end. Still a little short. OCtoolguy
jerry walters
You are right Ralph. Must have been looking at it with my bad eye. I think Tyler needs to explain it to us. Jerry OCtoolguy

That;s what i did to line mine up. The way I'm going to do it now is print out a few extra brackets and line them up to get them even and tape them on. Then I will scan that in to make one pattern. A little extra work but I tink it will work. OCtoolguy and jerry walters 1
don in brooklin on
I tried to do this in Inkscape and you have the same issue if you just type. I then split the letters and found that the space aligns differently. If now distribute the letters you get the same size on both. A little work and would be easier to print off and realign. jerry walters, don watson, rdatelle and 1 other 2
TAIrving
A trick I have occasionally used is to type the text/name in a PowerPoint and save as *.jpg. I can then import the *.jpg file into my pattern and stretch/resize it to fit. With a little practice you should be able to make this work and look good. rdatelle, OCtoolguy and don watson 2
rdatelle
Well I was able to make all my keychain compound labels. What I did was print out a bunch of blank labels and use spaces where I needed to and the ones that were short, I just cut the brackets off and taped them on the ends to even everything out. Pretty easy. Oh and by the way. On Steves program, I set the margin to 125% and it came out to a perfect one inch like Tyler did. jerry walters
You've been busy Ralph. Been sidetracked for a couple of days and pretty busy the rest of the week. Will try to do what you did. I also had found one of Tyler's earlier videos and he said in the video he would have to add an extra space or manually draw to extend the pattern. Jerry I watched that video plus he responded to my question on you tube. I found it easier to just make some extra blank brackets and extend them that way. I just line up the smaller one with the longer one and tape that together so it doesn’t move and then I just add a bracket on each side to even it out and tape them on. After I have them all taped I’ll run them through the scanner and make new copies all on one sheet so I don’t have any tape on them.
