Mabel H. Posted July 1, 2023 Report Posted July 1, 2023 I was wondering what others had used as finish for wooden coasters that makes a good water proof finish. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted July 1, 2023 Report Posted July 1, 2023 I'm not sure but I made a redwood gate years ago and coated it with marine spar varnish. As far as I know, it's still going strong. ChelCass 1 Quote
James E. Welch Posted July 1, 2023 Report Posted July 1, 2023 I'm not sure about coasters specifically but I use polyurethane on most projects and it seems to do well. OCtoolguy and ChelCass 2 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted July 2, 2023 Report Posted July 2, 2023 The best you can get for coasters is epoxy but it isn't cheap... Spar urethane would be a second choice for me. I have a set of coasters I made years ago for my brother and I just used regular polyurethane on them. They still look good. I used satin I think gloss might show up water rings more.. I think I sprayed a lot of coats on them too.. like instead of the usual I did like 6-8 coats to make sure they was sealed up good. OCtoolguy and ChelCass 1 1 Quote
