amazingkevin
I have some knocking noise coming from the saw. took apart some months ago and found a nut had worked it's way off.Now the noise is back but the nut is intact.I finally had to let the saw wear out some more to find some play in something.Ends up it's ths connecting rod off the motor at the wrist pin.Still working and use it daily till i can fget parts .can't go above 5 on the speed control. Jim Finn
I had that same nut to fall off and had the knocking sound too. I installed the nut about 4-5 times and it kept coming off. This was after other repairs to this saw. I ordered a new Hegner then. Before it came, a friend suggested I locktite the nut on, and it worked. Knocking was gone. Then the new Hegner came so I sold the 788 for $175 on Greg's List. That 788 lasted me only 20 months. It cut well but just did not last. amazingkevin
Thanks Jim for the heads up.The nut had come off months ago but i did'nt see the washer and had no idea it was missing till i got the schematic..Put a washer on after i took it all apart and could not find the play in the connecting rod wrist pin so added the washer and it's good to go.I love the bearings everyware in the 788.Very well built machine .I'll stick with this one.I did add the lock tight before but the missing washer was the culprit this time. I was ready to order a bunch of parts but am so glad it was a little thing!
Jim Finn
Mine had the washer there but the nut still spun off immediatly so I locktited it in place. I disagree , I think it is poorly built machine so... I got rid of mine.
bubbaloo158
Hi all... I'm a new 788 owner and am wondering where I should be looking for this nut that you speak of so that I can make the repair if need be in the future? Thanks --Bobby
amazingkevin
when you take the machine covers off look for the connecting rod coming off the motor.the top end of the connecting rod that connects to the linking arms is where the nut is.the wrist pin connection is where the nut is behind the linking arm if this helps.
