Looks great Dick. I just finished up my first attempt of carving also. I didn't use any knives or chisels. I used a rotary tool with burrs. I guess that is called carving. The problem I had is was trying to sand out my cutting.  I totally understand the feeling of the heat.

Sanding out my cuttings is something I will concentrate on in the next attempts. I just ran this one through the inexpensive sanding mop I have. I helped a little bit. I really do not like to spend too much time on my projects so I just sort of do things until my mind tells me, "That's good  enough", then I let it rest. That is why I know I am just a mediocre scroller at best. It might be just laziness on my part. You, on the other hand, are a very precise and detailed person and hence an artist instead of just a hobbist like me. That is the reason I love looking at your work and every post you make.

Nice job and the carving looks great and very natural. This summer has made me glad my shop is small and I can run my little 120 volt ac and cool it done quick. 😅

It is good when one can keep the temperature in their shops in a workable temperature, for sure. Thank you for the nice comment on my work

Thanks for your flattering word but my work is far from perfect.

well you have me fooled as it  always is so amazing. I can't find anything  but perfection in  everything you do. I makes me understand that I too can do a lot better if I just take the time and make the effort. I guess I am just a little bit on the lazy side.

It amazing you can do such beautiful work in that brutal heat. The colors really pop. We have several cardinal pairs in our back yard and enjoy watching them in our feeder. Hopefully things cool down soon for you.

We do not have Cardinals here but we have a few different birds like Roadrunners for one. I go to coffee every morning with some friends that live in our neighborhood and the guy feeds the ducks, doves, quail and several other bread of birds. Usually has about 200 birds a day. When I was in Montana a few months ago, they had a lot of wild turkeys there. One day a guy had over 100 of them in his yard at one time.

The quail and road runners are numerous where we live near Tucson. We use seed blocks to attract the quail and hanging feeders for the other types. we have a gently bubbling fountain in the back yard flower garden that really brings in small birds of all varieties. But, no Cardinals. There is a rather large football arena near Phoenix that's home to a bunch, though. 😀
