jimmyG Posted August 27, 2023 Report Posted August 27, 2023 Being a brand new scroller, I'm slowly learning and wondered if I wasted money buying Woodcraft's 9 pc scroll saw pack? 2 1/8" 2 1/4" 1 3/8" 1 1/2" all 12x12 I've only tried using 1/4" before and wondered what the other sizes could actually be used for... 1/8" seems pretty thin. Sorry for all of the questions but this place seems to be the right place to ask them. Let me know when I'm being a pest! Quote
BadBob Posted August 27, 2023 Report Posted August 27, 2023 (edited) These sizes look more like something you would use for a bandsaw. Blade Chart.pdf Edit: I thought he was talking about some weird scroll saw blade. I've never seen a scroll saw pack before. Edited August 27, 2023 by BadBob Correction. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Jim McDonald Posted August 27, 2023 Report Posted August 27, 2023 I love 1/8" for stack cutting my ornaments. I normally stack 4 to 6 layers depending on the complexity of the design. I also use a fair amount of 1/4" material, but rarely go above that--unless it is a special purpose. Is it a waste of money? Probably not. Was it overpriced? Probably. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted August 27, 2023 Report Posted August 27, 2023 The main reason I do not buy this way is because for scrolling I only use 1/8" and 1/4". I buy it by the 5' x 5' sheet so I am noi limiting myself to a picture that fits on a 12" x12" piece of wood. Most pictures I scroll are larger than that. What you purchased is not a waste, you will use it over time. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Ctutor Posted August 27, 2023 Report Posted August 27, 2023 use 1/8 and 1/4 for backing and for items that are layered like Alex Foxes stuff. Most of the time I get 8" wide since the patterns are sized to fit computer paper. Iget most wood from ooch woods OCtoolguy 1 Quote
