Popular Post heppnerguy
Here is one more effort to try and figure out how to add color to my projects when I think it will help to make it stand out and be a little more appealing. I do think I am slowly catching on to it but still have a ways to go, for sure. I am not an artist and I am trying to figure all this out by trying to pay attention to what others are doing and grab a little information from each one. Because it is not an natural art I posses, it is a very slow process indeed. I probably will not ever tot ally understand it but I do believe I will get better as I go, after all, it is obviously the only direction I can go. Dak0ta52
Wow, Dick. You nailed that one. I believe you hit those colors spot on. Even trimming the heart with the red over the pink shows you have artistic blood running through your veins. On top of the colors, the cutting is fantastic. FrankEV
I think you have the idea of enhancing a project with color down pat. For that hanging ornament, what did you do to the back side. I'm hoping you did the same coloring on the reverse side as well. That cutting, as colored, would look wonderful mounted on an appropriate colored backer and presented framed as an art panel. If yoou want to improve your coloration, look up pic of real subjects to get a better idea of what colors to use. Using real life colors is where the true art is. Dick heppnerguy Dick, you may already do this however when I am painting a project especially my cartoon character I will print out a color picture of that character and use that as a guide. Same with birds, etc. I have the pictures stored in a 3 ring binder for future reference. heppnerguy and barb.j.enders

I usually find for me that the paint often does not give me the amount of coverage I am looking for so I don't know if it will work for my liking or not but I really appreciate your input and I will give it a try. thanks so much for the help. Do you use only one coat of paint when doing that? Dick heppnerguy

It is a learning item for me and I am getting a little closer to what I am after but still a long way off. Thank for the encouragement I appreciate that a lot more than you might realize. I did nothing with the back side as I only cut it to see what the outcome my be. I then hung it in a window to see how it would look there and that was all I was interested in at the time. Now you have sparked further interest in possibly doing a little more with this. I am really not very interested in making and installing any backer board as I like the way the light works with the project hanging in the window. I could however make one later with a backer board as a possible project for sale with a little twist to it. Thank you so much for your suggestions. They are really helpful to me. I am not sure about your suggestion about looking up pictures of real subjects for ideas on coloring. Can you send me a link of one so I understand what you are suggesting? I have this exact idea in mind but have not found and available, probably because I just do not know where to look to find them. Can you send me a link where I might find an example and then I should be able to go from there. Love you idea. Dick heppnerguy

I know I have a long way to go to get where I really wish to be or I would be happy with it and I am not....at least not now. Thank you for the vote of confidence though. Several pictures popped up and I just chose one that looked closest to my cutting. Here are a few examples. I just noticed I didn't finish Donald. Sigh! Dick heppnerguy Just Google. Sorta like if you wanted to cut and color an image of a Parrot...search for photos of parrots to see their real life colors. Then pick and choose your paint colors accordingly. In yor project, you sorta used a flesh tone in the face area. I don't think it was intended to be a cartoon, so it just is not the color I would chose to use there. heppnerguy
Charlie E
I think you did a great job. My daughters can pick colors to go together that in my mind will totally clash and they look beautiful together. I think a certain amount of it is inborn. heppnerguy and ChelCass
wombatie
Well you certainly nailed that one. The colors are terrific. I am useless at painting and deciding on colors, I just go with what I like. Marg heppnerguy

I agree but I also think that if one takes the time to colorize some of their projects on a regular basis then perhaps one could sort of catch on to how they are done and get a little better with effort also. That is what i am trying to accomplish now Dick heppnerguy Charlie E and FrankEV
