8X magnification sounds quite strong.  My current light has 3X magnification which I like.

I have a 3x and a 5x and I find myself using the 3x most often.  One has a glass lens and the other non-glass, (plastic I guess).  The glass lens is better.

I bought a head mounted one with several different diopter lenses.  It's a bit handier. I wear tri focals and, the one I'm giving away was a bit clumsy to use with the saw. It's great for stationary, bench work though.

Gave all my woodworking tools to a Son. Had one like you are showing. Don't know the magnification amount.

One huge mistake I made was mounting it to the saw stand. The vibration made the lens worthless. Was a great light.

 IF you get something like that, hang it from the ceiling. I used the light & wore a magnifying headband.
