Excalibur Adjustments

I have a green and a black Excalibur.. the green version has an adjuster located inside the upper arm under the plastic cover. This adjuster broke and I've since replaced it. My question is what does this do?? I put it back together and it had to be in a certain "setting" for the upper head to go back in place, then I snugged it up.. but it is an adjuster so I'm sure it does something? Any help??

The black version of the saw i have has a different setup inside the upper arm with no adjustment..

If it's the excalibur 21 or 30 its to adjust the upper blade holder arm to get the maximum up and down movement from it. Why it was there in the first place was to extend the the arm length from the excalibur 16 too the 21 or 30 with out having to change out the full assembly. That same part broke on mine as will and had to replace it then the bolt in in kept breaking. Got so bad I had extra bolts on hand all the time. Eventually had to change out the full assembly no problems since..
