Reindeer

Was trying to make these tiny Reindeer outta basswood.  The smaller of the two is made from 3x1/8. The larger from 6x3/32. Using a really inexpensive WEN I bought on Amazon.  Neither were easy to cut, the 1/8, I was doubled up trying to get two of everything,  but the antlers couldn't take the micro cutting.  The 3/32, I doubled up on legs only they came out fine.

 

I got a couple questions for small projects like this:

#1 what's a good speed and blade for something like this?

#2 where do you purchase wood for crafty stuff like this? This basswood was purchased at hobby lobby. Not really alot to choose from.

I think you would have better luck with Baltic Birch plywood.  Some of the hobby stores like Michaels carry it in smaller pieces.  You can order it online for places like Ocooch wood: https://ocoochhardwoods.com/plywood/baltic-birch-plywood/. I got some from them last month, it is good.  Plywood works better because of the layers you do not have to worry grain direction like with solid woods.  And Baltic Birch is the best for scrolling because no voids in it. like in cheaper plywood from the big box stores.

Man, that's just what I'm looking for scrappile! Thanks, yeah that grain bit me on 3 outta 4 antlers I was trying to cut
