JimNC Posted March 20, 2024 Report Posted March 20, 2024 Can someone recommend a Scroll Saw blade for scrolling out shapes from a 2x4 pine? I use pinless blades. Jim Barnes Randleman, North Carolina OCtoolguy 1 Quote
ChelCass Posted March 20, 2024 Report Posted March 20, 2024 (edited) I use FD #5 ultra reverse. Works well for me. Edited March 21, 2024 by ChelCass OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted March 20, 2024 Report Posted March 20, 2024 I use skip tooth blades. Blade choice depends on type of wood, wood thickness and pattern. So my answer is actually, it depends. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted March 20, 2024 Report Posted March 20, 2024 It also might make a difference on the wood itself. If you are buying from H/D you will probably get some very wet wood. I did a compound cutting on 2 x 2 douglas fir that was very dry. I started out using a Pegas #5 MGT and had a terrible time with it. Then someone suggested a skip tooth or double skip tooth and that made a world of difference. You want something that allows for dust removal from the kerf. I had pretty good luck with some Olson crowned tooth blades too. About a #7. preprius 1 Quote
preprius Posted March 21, 2024 Report Posted March 21, 2024 Yes, I agree with skip or double skip blades. I tried a Douglas Fir 2x2 using #5 MGR modified geometry, it did not do well. Changed to skip and then double skip#7. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

NC Scroller Posted March 21, 2024 Report Posted March 21, 2024 Late for the party but my go to for that type of wood are these: Super Skip | Pegas scroll saw (artcraftersonline.com) OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Denny Knappen Posted March 21, 2024 Report Posted March 21, 2024 I agree with Scott. I use Pegas Super Skip blades on my Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments. I use 1 1/2" stock usually hardwoods. I sell then and the link is below my signature. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
don in brooklin on Posted March 21, 2024 Report Posted March 21, 2024 I have been cutting a chess set out of 2x4 spf and have found that FD polar #5 and #7 work well. I have used #6 skip tooth successfully too. Wichman and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
