Popular Post heppnerguy Posted March 28, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted March 28, 2024 I have a friend who enjoys hanging the different airplanes I have made for him and was ready for another. He asked me to make him a P 38 from WWII. I looked for a good realistic wood pattern to cut and could not find one. So I looked up several photos of the real plane and pieced together, from the different views and found enough to get the angles I needed to make the model. Problem was, everyone had a different size so I had to resize all of them to be the same and make a temporary pattern and the try to get all the angle and slopes close enough to cut. It was a very difficult project for me without a pattern but I got one that will look OK hanging from the ceiling of his garage with the other planes I made. I already know it is a project I will never cut again as it was extremely time consuming to make it all come together. Dick heppnerguy TAIrving, FrankEV, BadBob and 11 others 12 2 Quote
Scrappile Posted March 28, 2024 Report Posted March 28, 2024 Well you did a great job! Tell us about the propellers, I have never seen that before. heppnerguy 1 Quote
jerry walters Posted March 28, 2024 Report Posted March 28, 2024 WOW!!! Very cool Dick. I really like it. Took a lot of work on your part, from beginning to end. Jerry heppnerguy 1 Quote
keefie Posted March 28, 2024 Report Posted March 28, 2024 Dick, you have done a fantastic job there especially without a pattern. The propellers look great too, how did you make them? Keith. Quote

You have those propellers in you fridge most likely. I made them by cutting off the bottoms of plastic water bottles. Hows that for recycling? Dick Fab4, Scrappile, wombatie and 1 other 3 1 Quote

Jerry It was not particularly a fun project. It was more a stumble through it piece by piece. I was not sure I could make it happen. Dick heppnerguy Quote

As you probably realize, I am not very happy with the results of this effort but at least I was able to complete it and that was something I was not sure of all the way through the effort. It is recognizable but I hoped it could be better than it turned out. It reminded me of when I struggled with cutting your pattern and was almost ready to throw in the towel and you saved me from giving up on my scrolling. The problems were here but your encouragement kept me doing what I love. Because of what you did for me at that time, I just fought my way through this project and never got to that same point of discouragement I was in then. Dick heppnerguy munzieb 1 Quote

Thank you for you nice comment Dick heppnerguy Quote

If iT wasn't for @munzieb encouragement and coaching I would have never complete the Diesel train engine project. I wish he lived closer so I and you could all go to launch together or something. munzieb 1 Quote
MarieC Posted March 30, 2024 Report Posted March 30, 2024 Dick, what a very special project...really nice designing on your part. I also have been working on a project and am making things up as I go along...so I can understand that what you just made must have taken many hours of designing, looking at it three dimensionly and then cutting it. Wow! Really makes you exercise you brain!....Good for you! heppnerguy 1 Quote
wombatie Posted April 2, 2024 Report Posted April 2, 2024 You did an awesome job Dick, bet your neighbor loves it. Up there for thinking, recycling at it's finest. Well done. Marg heppnerguy 1 Quote
