Bzern
Hi, I am making a mug out of wedge and zebra wood for my brother's birthday so he can drink his hot tea out of it, I got this great pattern for free from scrollsawworkshop, there are about 2000 great free patterns there, but I was wondering if there is any resin or epoxy, or anything to treat the wood with to make it okay to drink hot tea from. Thanks! Link to Mug Pattern http://www.stevedgood.com/mug.pdf

Bzern
Thanks, I will stay away from epoxy, I'll keep searching for a resin or something. Thanks
Travis
You could try butcher block oil (or salad bowl oil). Don't know how it will handle the heat, but it's food safe. You can find it at most big box stores.

spirithorse
I searched the internet high and low because I wanted to help and also because I wanted to know for myself and the best info I could find seemed to be at the end of this article http://www.woodturner-russ.com/fsoriginal3a.html which, for the most part, says for DRINKING Vessels, BARE WOOD is the best alternative but, then you must be sure the type of wood is not highly toxic. Earlier in the article it also states that Pure Citrus Oils like Hazel Nut Oil are safe but, I would have to wonder if there would be an oily film on top of your brother's tea. Good luck and God Bless! Spirithorse
Bzern
Thank you so much, I learned a lot from that article, I think I might use a food safe wood filler on the mug, thenI might just leave it bare. Thanks
