Bzern Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Hi, I have done some intarsia and I want to start Marquetry, I looked up some pictures and I found this (attached image), I really like it, but I don't want to used stain woods, it looks like it takes 3 shades of wood to give the effect of shadow. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what woods I should use, it should have relatively straight grain so it won't take away from the overall appearance. I think I will use red oak for one shade, but I don't know about the others. Thanks a bunch, Ben Quote
robbert100 Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 how are you gone doo it are you gone saw sone thin wood ore are you gone use veneer ? i was thinking about to do it looks like fun making it whit veneer i just woke up and dit not use spell scheck Quote
Bzern Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 I was going to use some 1/4 inch wood probably, the thickness doesn't matter to much because it is all flat. Thanks, Ben Quote
Jim Finn Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 from my experience with making checker boards and inlay work I suggest using all hardwoods or all softwoods. Much easier to get a flat finish when sanding this way. Quote
