I have been meaning to cut this for a long time.

made out of a old drawer bottom and the frame from a salvaged bora ridden oak table that still had some sound wood left.

Thanks.    Living in a small town here in New Zealand scrap timber is often the only way to get any wood apart from pine. And that costs a arm and leg.

Thanks.   He loved it even though he pretended not to in his normal gruff way.

he had no idea I was making it and had never seen the photo that created the pattern.

 Some people are that way about certain things. Perhaps it just is difficult for him to express himself when something is given to him. I still  think he will cherish it and the fact that you cared enough to do that for him.
