In re; sinus/allergy issues. I feel your pain. I've had to start wearing a mask with OV cartridges to avoid issues. I have a 20" box fan to the side of the scroll saw with a 5" furnace filter and a 1" activated charcoal filter, I never shut the fan off, so it's constantly cleaning the air. I had to adjust my ear muffs so they didn't put as much pressure on my temples.

I was amazed at how much dust my box fan collected with just a cheapie furnace filter.

Kevin I had vertigo and a good therapist and believe it or not You Tube helped me a lot.  Prior to seeing the therapist I did some exercises for this at home based on the you tube.  When I went to see him I had been cured.

So don't despair with vertigo, it is treatable.

My wife did the same. An easy procedure that stopped the vertigo.

I had the same type of vertigo. The test for it is very simple; sit on the edge of a bed, turn your head to one side, lay back quickly. Instant vertigo if this is the problem. Repeat for the other side.

No vertigo? Then it's not this particular issue. Vertigo? Then some simple exercises to start, cured mine in under 2 weeks, your results may very.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and tips I'm always willing to listen to tips and suggestions.

My wife has been a nurse for over 30 years and works side by side with some great doctors.. we have tried many of the maneuvers to help with the vertigo.. have not seen a physical therapist yet but have watched some YouTube videos etc.

I have found some of the things do give me some relief but nothing puts me back to normal yet.. I see the ENT next week for a follow up after some test but he is really thinking I'll need surgery and only one the wife trust to do it locally.. unfortunately he is retiring end of this year so I may have to shut down all my selling.. unfortunately during the 4th quarter when that's when I actually get to make some money, LOL

Meanwhile, I guess I'm stuck with playing with the laser machine.. miss scrolling but I pay for it if I wear the mask for more than 20 minutes or so.. I do run box fans two of them, and the ceiling mount filtration.. seyco scroll saw dust collector at the saw so dust is minimal..

For me, it's not just the dust, it's the organic vapors. HF sells a soft neoprene mask with a carbon filter, it's very soft and has a very wide seal, so it puts very little pressure on your sinuses and temples. I have to limit my cutting sessions to 30 minutes or... pain. There are times I can't cut because of the sinus tenderness . I have high blood pressure so I have to be careful what I take. I recently tried the sinus/allergy medicine for high blood pressure patients, Coriceden, and it is working well for me so far.

Bought this mask today and just tried it out to saw a 4" circle in a 3/4" board for a dryer vent (actually a laser vent that'll set in a window so I don't have to cut a hole in my shop wall..).. Anyway, love the mask.. was so comfortable I kinda forgot I had it on. Thanks for the heads up on this. Used to have one similar but the company changed up the design and the old one broke and didn't like the new one.

Also my MRI shows I have Mastoiditis and they are now sending me to another specialist at the university hospital. I have a bad deviated septum too which the ENT says can cause more inflammation etc. for my sinuses and that may be more of my issues than my actual allergies. I've known I have the deviated septum for years but no doctor ever mentioned this could be a lot of my sinus issues either so I never bothered to have it fixed. It's also a possibility that this is what has caused the mastoiditis too but he wanted me to see another specialist more specialized in this situation.

I hope you don’t stop.  I’ve slowed down but going out and just being able to cut another cross keeps me going.  I just give most of it away.  I give my sister a lot who gives it to older folks she works with.  They really like the crosses.  A simple small palm cross the most.

Sadly, a fellow scroller her bought my Dewalt and everything that went with it.  Now I'm making resin projects and I can work inside the house instead of a freezing garage, that's so much cleaner now!

I had surgery for my deviated septum a couple of years ago and have been very pleased with the results.  I can now breathe freely through both sides of my nose!  And no more chronic infections.

Thanks for sharing this. I think I'll have it done as well at some point, but they want to take care of the Mastoiditis first..
