coldwood Posted October 16 Report Share Posted October 16 I have bought these blade holders in the past from Lee Valley or Busy Bee but they no longer carry them. I cant seem to find them anywhere. The size fits the tray that I have all my scroll saw blades in. Does anyone know where I can purchase a pack or so. Amazons size is thicker so they won't fit in my tray holder. Wichman Posted October 17 Report Share Posted October 17 Try uline 1/2" plastic tubes, they have caps for the ends. This is a pet peeve of mine. You take the time and effort to make things and then " they " change the standard sizes of things and your efforts go to waste. Just went through this with the spice rack I built, now it's a knick nack shelf and every one is downsizing and minimizing. Aak. I bought them from eBay but that was some years ago so not sure I could find the seller now. I never measured them but I think they're approx. 1/2".. when I purchased them they was size in mm so I struggled to figure out if they'd fit. Could always buy some PVC pipe and some end caps to make some. Edit: Looking on eBay I think it was 16mm x 150mm but 16mm is more like 5/8 inch so you would need closer to a 12-13mm.. 12 being just under 1/2 and 13 just a fraction over 1/2.. 150mm is approx. 6 inch. They have cork tops instead of of twist tops. A little higher but would work. I have enough of the tubes I got from Lee Valley a long time ago. I do group buys by the gross for our club and this easier for members. I added a dollar to the price and they still got a deal. Was always going to make something to have blade storage on the other saws but never have done it yet. JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted October 18 Report Share Posted October 18 (edited) When I first got started scrolling I had to have the latest greatest inventions. Everyone was making blade holders from PVC pipe and using caps to secure blades. I made a whole rack of them and I colored them with paint because I use to paint the ends of the blades to signify the size of the blade. Still have rack hanging on wall and whatever blades are in them are antiques by now. Then the Berry Basket came out with a small rack that you could stand or hang on the wall with plastic tubes. So I bought a couple of those and that is where I store my FD blades in with the labels attached to the outside. Again I stopped using all those things many years ago because I found I basically was using one blade #5 penquin reverse FD blades which was my go to blade and still is today to cut just about anything. Now I have puzzle blades and a few larger blades and also jewelers blades but I just keep them in the package they came in and they sit next to the saws and when I need a blade I just take out of the package. Gonzo Posted October 18 Report Share Posted October 18 I use cigar tubes. The tubes of blades are stored in a cigar box. When using a certain size blade,I just have the tube sitting on my workbench. I have an older EX-21 with no dust collection. It is a simple box that catches the sawdust and small piece that catches it before it fall on my leg. It is real crude and if I was doing more scrolling I would add dust collection of some sort but this works.
