don in brooklin on
They came out real nice. Must try some spruce. Did you just put food colour in the hole? Edited October 21 by don in brooklin on barb.j.enders

No. Just the finish. I am curious now about food colour. Why? What colours?

It is what I use to display ornaments/birdhouses. It is a Pasta Drying rack. I also made one on a lazy susan thingy so it spins! Just finished teaching 7 new scrollers in the last 2 days compound cutting. I was fun seeing the amazement when the house and the bird popped out. One student wrote me today to say the smile has not left her face. danny and barb.j.enders

I don't have a way to mill my own wood and I haven't found hardwoods in that format. I would love to try Cherry, Alder or stuff like that! I used scrap pieces of Hardwood, just glued them together to get the right thickness and get rid of scraps better than using the stove barb.j.enders and danny
don in brooklin on
I use what ever scraps. For my class I got a piece of ash 1 3/4 square in the discount bin at my lumber yard. Cheap. 4 feet for $8 I had some basswood squares and as an experiment I cut one out to see what it looked like. Easy to cut but It looked way too white. I then just dipped in stain. (Oak) and it came out okay. I should have spend a little time sanding. The squares are cheap on amazon but 1.4 x 1.4 which I think would work. barb.j.enders
BadBob
I have made several from glued-up pieces. This one is made from some salvaged drawer parts. barb.j.enders
