Popular Post Hawk Posted October 30, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted October 30, 2024 In my exploration of adding color to my scrollsaw projects, and trying something new, I took an actual stained glass pattern and cut it with ⅛ ply and filling it with acrylic in place of the stained glass This time I stained one side darker that the other. So what do you think? Light or dark wood? Chris Be_O_Be, meflick, RabidAlien and 8 others 10 1 Quote
jollyred Posted October 30, 2024 Report Posted October 30, 2024 Personally, I like the light stain better. Both are very good looking. Tom danny, Hawk and JJB 2 1 Quote

Michael B. Posted October 30, 2024 Report Posted October 30, 2024 Wow! Those look terrific. If I had to choose, I like the light color better. It pops better with the other colors. Hawk and barb.j.enders 1 1 Quote
Hawk Posted October 30, 2024 Author Report Posted October 30, 2024 It's actually 2 sides of the same project, I think of it as a sun catcher, looks the same from both sides. But it seems that the preferred side is the light (natural color) wood side. My wife agrees with all of you! FrankEV 1 Quote

daveww1 Posted October 30, 2024 Report Posted October 30, 2024 excellent job, I prefer the light side Hawk 1 Quote
JJB Posted October 30, 2024 Report Posted October 30, 2024 Yep I like the light as well. Makes the colors pop better than the dark. Hawk 1 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted October 30, 2024 Report Posted October 30, 2024 I am with the masses - light! Hawk 1 Quote
Hawk Posted October 30, 2024 Author Report Posted October 30, 2024 It's nice of you all to agree with my wife (lol) I must admit I prefer the natural (light) side also. But it had been in the back of my mind "hmmmm, I wonder what a dark stain would look like?" Which is why I had to try. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle! FrankEV and MarieC 2 Quote

Jim McDonald Posted October 31, 2024 Report Posted October 31, 2024 I like the light visually, but the dark really changes the color saturation of the inlays. Hawk 1 Quote
Denny Knappen Posted November 1, 2024 Report Posted November 1, 2024 Sure looks great on both sides. What did you use to cut the acrylic? Hawk 1 Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted November 1, 2024 Report Posted November 1, 2024 Put me down for light also. The dark stain just drags down the vibrant colors of the glass. Let the glass do the talking. Nice job. Hawk 1 Quote
wombatie Posted November 4, 2024 Report Posted November 4, 2024 They look terrific. Light for sure. Marg Hawk 1 Quote

I used my scrollsaw, kinda like cutting pieces for Intarsia, split the line! Also set the saw at a pretty low speed. The 2/0 blades seem to be the best, the more TPI the better. Anyhow that is what works for me. Quote
