KenofShelby Posted November 15, 2024 Report Posted November 15, 2024 Looking to get into scrolling,,,I am tempted by the Bauer 22” from HF,, it is a heavy beast, 75 poundsl. they claim it equals the Dewalt 788, I don’t know…the Wen is highly rated, soo?//. then I looked at that low price Dremel,,,,really interesting. Not interested in the portable feature, but it has lots o good points, only thing I’m not sure of,, does it take pinless blades? So what do yu think..??? Anybody know anything about this Rockwell saw….Sorta looks like a scroll saw,,, they say it is. A guy offfered it to me for free, but it takes a four hour round trip?? OCtoolguy 1 Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted November 15, 2024 Report Posted November 15, 2024 Stay as far away from that object whatever it is. https://www.toolboxbuzz.com/power-tools/saws/rockwell-bladerunner-review-model-rk7320/ Look at the thread recently started First Scrollsaw. It may help you too. MarieC and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
Norm Fengstad Posted November 15, 2024 Report Posted November 15, 2024 I bought a rockwell when a friend moved he said it was the best thing since sliced bread. I used it for one cut, gave it to my son and he made one cut, that was 3 or four years ago. It is not a scroll saw MarieC and OCtoolguy 2 Quote

I can't see this being very fun to use.. OCtoolguy and MarieC 2 Quote

Maybe you need to figure out what it is you plan to make with these saws... Scroll saws can do a very wide variety of work from cutting wood to thin sheet metal to plastics etc. etc. then the various projects within these materials also has a wide range of things to make.. You will not be able to do intricate fretwork very well with any of the machines you have mentioned as they just are not user friendly for those types of projects.. I could see this saw being used for rough cutouts of shapes etc.. imagine much sanding would be needed but in that case a bandsaw would probably be a better choice.. But maybe if that is what you plan to make then it might be a good choice.. most of us when we hear you're looking for scroll saw we think of fine detailed artwork and things like that.. The proxxon and this tool are not a good choice for the things most of us would think of using as you would a scroll saw. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
jerry walters Posted November 15, 2024 Report Posted November 15, 2024 (edited) If you want to use the BladeRunner as a scrol saw, DON'T. It is basically a Jig Saw mounted upside down. Blades are jig saw blades. I bought mine because I thought I could use it like a table saw. Thought it was a good idea. Not so good. At leaset I didn't spend a lot of money on it. Was about $80.00 at Lowes. That was about 10 years ago. Does OK cutingt thin boards, no thicker than 1/2 inch. I tried cutting a 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 inch square of pine with it. Did OK till I got close to the end, than BANG bout broke my hand and scared the bjibbers out of me. Haven't used it since. That was about 2 years ago. KenofShelby Posted November 16, 2024 Author Report Posted November 16, 2024 Probably going to pass one the Rockwell…. It is just an inverted jig saw. Though the seller did offer to throw in a Dremel, new in box, for $10. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted December 1, 2024 Report Posted December 1, 2024 No, just don’t buy that. The newest Harbor Freight is the lowest I would go. i use the Dewalt 788 every day. OCtoolguy and Jim McDonald 2 Quote
KenofShelby Posted December 2, 2024 Author Report Posted December 2, 2024 I pulled the trigger on the Bauer 22’ variable speed scroll saw,,,Got a great price on it. It is a nice heavy saw,,75 pounds, came with rubbber feet so I put those on it and set it on my 3’ x5’ drafting table that is adjustable for tile and height,,,,,no vibration,, runs very, very quiet. I like that the is no dust tube blowing right into my lap…I find it operates very nicely from the 4:30 position,,,,,comfortable easy to reach arm pin. Of course I don’t have anything to compare it to,, but I am very satisfied with it. Found no ‘cons’ yet so far. It works just great. (I expect the HF haters to chime in soon, but I don’t care what they think.) kmmcrafts, OCtoolguy, Scrappile and 1 other 3 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted December 2, 2024 Report Posted December 2, 2024 Congratulations on the new saw.. I hope to see some of the projects you make with it. I was at my local HF store not to long ago and check that saw out.. I think it'll be a great saw for most folks and yeah they are a hard to beat price. I've had really good luck with all the Bauer brand tools I've bought so far.. IF I were looking to get another saw I'd consider trying one of these.. My local HF is very good about returns and exchanges if there were a problem.. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted December 3, 2024 Report Posted December 3, 2024 Congrats on your new toy. We will all be waiting to hear how it works out. As for Harbor Freight, I have purchased a lot of power tools from them and have had no problems with any of them. I've had to perform minor repairs and adjustments on all of them but nothing that made me regret buying them. Let the snobs hold their noses. We will hold our wallets. kmmcrafts 1 Quote

Just because some do not like HF tools does not make them a snob. You hold your own wallet sir. I have nothing against anyone buying HF tools. I just said I will not buy any motor related HF tool and never will so I take objection to your comment. You know I have been the biggest critic of HF tools and this was directed at me. kmmcrafts Posted December 3, 2024 Report Posted December 3, 2024 Most tools I've purchased from HF was a tool that was something I felt I wouldn't use much and not going to pay top brand tool prices for a one time or very few times use.. Years ago I bought a sawzall to cut some 4" PVC sewer pipes for a job I was doing. I had to take the tool back to HF 4 times and this job was a really small job that I should have used a hand saw on but I didn't.. Their tools have come a long way from back in those days.. Being into mechanic things etc I follow some mechanics on social sites. I had to search out these guys and hoped I'd find them on YouTube so I could share the video. I don't think the video is from the actual guy making them but rather maybe it's someone else posting their videos.. or they have a different name on YouTube.. either way.. this is just hand tools but HF tools outperformed Snap-On in the test these guys put them through. Ray @OCtoolguy might like to see since he was a tool sales guy for several years and probably knows way more about tools and tool quality than many of us. There are several other mechanics doing these same test if you search for Icon vrs. Snap-On Etc. Pretty interesting to see this kind of testing. I might have two Hawks, a Hegner and a Excalibur scroll saw in my shop and most everything else is DeWalt.. I always push for used higher end saws because of the cost and quality.. Just because something is new does not make it better and I can say that from first hand experience with the Hawk saws.. BTW. I have less money in all the saws I've owned than I do in the one brand new Hawk I bought.. and out of then.. the new Hawk is probably my least favorite.. It's still a very nice saw but the quality isn't there like the older ones. It's not quite as smooth as the older ones were. Let's not forget there could be two types of tool snobs.. one loves high end tools and the other loves the cheapest tool that does the job.. at the end of the day it doesn't affect me one bit which one category one chooses.. I have both high end and cheap tools and most have done me well for the purpose in which I bought them for. The only memorable real disappointment in a tool I ever recall is the sawzall I purchased years ago.. and HF has really upped the quality since back then. MarieC and OCtoolguy 1 1 Quote
