Holiday Scroll Saw Challenge

This scroll saw challenge is an easy one!  Post a Holiday project!  Ornaments for your tree, gift for a loved one, or decorations for your house.  Whatever!  While we love to see your projects, it's the stories behind the project that makes it special.  So tell us a little bit about it.

I made this pattern from Steve Good and it can be interpreted two ways, Santa gained too much weight during the year and the ladder broke or he lost too much weight and his pants fell off, either way so far I made 5 of them because my family and friends like them

3 Layer, with colored rice size LEDs

I really like doing layered and lit projects. Last year, I did the much larger one.  I really like working with walnut, it cuts and finishes well, and that chocolate color when I apply the linseed oil is phenomenal.

Each year I do a Marine ornament for Hubby and this is this year's orn.  I did not put a backer on the bell itself as he preferred it without.  The bell outline I will do in blue.

These are from this year's business kit patterns.  I cut them from 1/8-inch baltic birch plywood and finished with clear shellac. I used a #3 Pegas MGT blade with the saw slowed down about 1/4 turn from the slowest speed.

The last two gifts for the ex girlfriend, still friends, just a step back. The angel is a SG pattern, the spice rack is an old pattern I had to modify.

Since 2010 I have made yearly ornaments for family, friends and co-workers.  Modified Steve Good pattern and had to cut 60 of them this year.  1/8 inch BB ply cut with Sawbird #3 ultra reverse, stack cut four at a time.

A couple from the "Ornaments for Charity" patterns for 2024. Did this this AM, stack cut.

The Dove is mahogany.  The angel is canary wood.  Finished with Beeswax and coconut oil.

I just handed out 65 if these to our 4 teams at work. We had a pot luck day, so my boss and I decided it was the best time to hand them out. 

No scrollsaw work.  But CNC and Laser was used.  5 types of wood, Maple , cherry, black walnut, Mohagany, and Hickory.

Our group says end of year celebration due to many different types of religion is through out the 20,000 workers corporate wide. 

I know lots of Technical abbreviations in the gifts. The names are project names. There are about 12 to 20 members per project.

This is the first time I made gifts for all projects teams. I usually just give them to the team I was assigned to.

This is a Carole Rothman design that was published in Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts, issue 61, Holiday 2015. The box is made from Brazilian rosewood and the flower petals are cut from alder.

Won’t the missus be surprised!

Some recent stuff.  Scrooge is, of course, hanging up at work during December.  Santa countdown is at my wife's desk, and the gnome ornaments usually find a spot on the tree somewhere.

Yesterday I did a compound cut out of one of the ornaments for charity books.  this one is by Travis.  I realized that by adjusting the side cut, you can make 3 ornaments out of one slab, so in essence a stack cut in a way.

Cyut the PEACE side first, then cut the 3 side cuts.
