Hawk Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 Ok Village peps, I've been experimenting with 2 different ways to get color into a project and explore different ways of doing it. So 2 Crosses done in different ways. Which one in your opinion is better. How you measure better is up to you. I'm on the fence between the 2. I will say the one on the left is acrylic, the one on the right is stained glass. The glass was a bit of a challenge and I'm still on the learning curve. So.....what do you think Wichman, meflick, barb.j.enders and 4 others 5 2 Quote
Farmerdon Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 Both are beautiful. I like the one on the right the best. My wife used to do stained glass, so I know how much work that is . danny, Hawk and OCtoolguy 2 1 Quote
MarieC Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 Wow, you are doing stained glass. That is super impressive! What a talented guy....I too like the stain glass one it really captures the light. OCtoolguy and Hawk 1 1 Quote
Peter N White Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 Stained glass is the winner for me. Scrappile, MarieC, Hawk and 1 other 3 1 Quote
Hawk Posted December 4, 2024 Author Report Posted December 4, 2024 I gotta say my wife agrees with you too. For me the stained glass has "life" where the acrylic is so sterile in my opinion. Scrappile, MarieC and OCtoolguy 3 Quote
Wichman Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 I like the colors of the acrylic, but, I'd like to see a picture of the stained glass with light behind it. ChelCass, Hawk, kmmcrafts and 1 other 3 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 I like them both! well done.. Hawk and OCtoolguy 1 1 Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 Both work well. Both give a different look. I could add one more look and that is to use colored mirror acrylic. Makes for a nice look. too. If I had to choose between the 2 you have I would lean toward the stain glass but reverse the color combination. The green should be the dominate color against the light colored maple. My opinion only. OCtoolguy, JackJones and Hawk 3 Quote
Scrappile Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 I am on the stained glass side, but great job on both! Hawk, ChelCass and OCtoolguy 2 1 Quote

OCtoolguy Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 I like both of them. I have to admire you for learning to work with the stained glass. But, for those of us more indolent folks, and I am including myself, the acrylic will be the easier path. I always wanted to learn stained glass but never got around to doing it. Too old now. Hudson River Rick Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 @HawkChris, great job on both of them. I'm in on the glass. Thanks for sharing. Rick OCtoolguy and Hawk 1 1 Quote
rjweb Posted December 5, 2024 Report Posted December 5, 2024 I vote stain glass, RJ OCtoolguy and Hawk 1 1 Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted December 5, 2024 Report Posted December 5, 2024 Would it be possible for you show us the back side to show us how you are laying the glass and acrylic pieces down? OCtoolguy and JackJones 2 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted December 5, 2024 Report Posted December 5, 2024 I join the masses - the stained glass looks great. It has texture to it which changes the light. The acrylic is nice as well. MarieC, Hawk and OCtoolguy 2 1 Quote
ChelCass Posted December 5, 2024 Report Posted December 5, 2024 I love both as well. Each has its own challenges. I find doing stained glass easier for me as I have done it for years. I would love to see each with light behind them to get a better idea of how they each would look with the light. Hawk and OCtoolguy 2 Quote

You know I do agree with you about the stained glass being easier. as compared to Intarsia. With Intarsia the margin of error (gaps) is almost zero, with stained glass the margin is much larger, better for these old tired eyes (lol) JTTHECLOCKMAN 1 Quote
Hawk Posted December 8, 2024 Author Report Posted December 8, 2024 @JTTHECLOCKMAN, heres a short video showing both sides. As this is still in the experiment stage I painted one side silver in an effort to mimic solder, the jury is still out on that. 20241208_150757.mp4 ChelCass 1 Quote

You glued the glass to the backside of the front piece and then just laid the back piece over that. So you can see the edges of the glass between the 2 wood parts? Quote

The glass doesn't show on the sides. I put an 1/8" spacer around the perimeter to hide the edge of the glass before putting the glass in and gluing the stack together JTTHECLOCKMAN 1 Quote
