Just found this sight last night looking for my first scroll saw. I'm from Little Rock Arkansas. So far I feel like I have learned alot being on here. Was looking at the Bauer and seen it only uses plain blades and not pinned blades. Is that a problem? Thanks for letting me join.

Plain (non pinned) blades are what you want.  They can fit into the tiniest holes.  A pinned blade will not fit into a lot of holes on your patterns.  I have heard good things about the new Bauer saw. A couple of our members have one so they could give you more information. Welcome to the Village.  Any questions just ask, someone will help you out.

I doubt you will find anyone, who has been scrolling for any length of time, that still uses pin end blades.  As ChelCass said, the pin end blades just limit you so much in what you can do.  Also a lot more variety of types and sizes that are available in the plain end blades.  They are definitely the way to go.

Thank you for all the greetings! This will be a new adventure for me. Have never done any woodworking like this so you will see some moves that thought never could be done. 🙃Thanks again.

Welcome to village. I am from California.

I am looking forward to seing new moves from the newbie.  I was a newbie 3 yrs ago. I had lots of questions early on.  This village helped me with many answers.

A Pin less blade source is :

So I will inject an answer before the question....

Get a sample pack of sizes and types of blades. Blade sizes can be a bit of learning curve. It all comes down to what feels good to you, the type of wood, the thickness of the wood, and how precise of cut you need.

I use smallest #2/0 up to #7.  I have on hand 5 types of pegas blades . My goto blade is #5 mgt (modified geometry). But #1 mgt is used for more precise cuts.

Flying dutchman "Polar" brand types are also popular.

Just in case I get into some new situations.  I even have metal cutting blades when I want to cut coins or copper or aluminum sheets.

Me.

Welcome, from Michigan,,, I have a Bauer, and while I have nothing to compare it to….I love it….very quiet,,no vibration, so easy to use,, and the big thing I like is that there is no dust tube blowing dust right into my lap…. Of course, I have a vac system built into my shop,, so that helps a lot.

So happy you picked us up to join. Be sure to explore as much as you have time for and log on often and take time to reply to other's posts or comments. It helps you to get to know others here. There are no stupid questions out there as we all started from our first efforts and have learned  by trial and error as well as by asking others and reading their answers.
